Mileage Stinks

Review
Having owned a '01 Duramax, I have to say that I'm very disappointed with my '05. Having averaged 22 mpg with my '01, going down to 15 mpg with my '05 is very disturbing. Coupled with the fact that my dealership is encouraging me to purchase an after- market performance chip in the hopes that the mileage may improve 3 or 4 mpg. The truck's ride is much better than a Ford or a Dodge. However, personally, I liked the styling of my '01 better. With the slant-eyed headlights, it would seem that the final design of the '05 front-end came out of Hong Kong. If you don't mind spending 1/2 of your time at the gas station, buy a new Chevy Duramax. Else, do what I am ... consider buying a Ford.
Favorite Features
Interior. 5 - Disk CD. XM Satellite.
Suggested Improvements
GM has to return the MPG of their Duramax to the '01/'02 levels. Milage of 15/16 MPG is completely unacceptable for this generation of engine/transmission combination. Loaded, most are lucky to get between 10/12 mpg. The engine design staff at GM should be shot for ruining this motor.

Review
I Love my Silverado. I t gets me where I need to go. Only thing I would replace is to add a light under the hood.
Favorite Features
Feels like driving a Caddy. Very smooth on the road. No matter where I go. I feel safe in my Silverado. No matter what type driving conditions.
Suggested Improvements
Light under the hood. I have helped a lot of folks who are broke down on the road. When they need a jump start, I have to use a flashlight.

The positives are the room for six people, especially with a family. I like the lifted hood design and the fog lamps are awesome (however I get brighted a lot from oncoming traffic)! The wind noise in WY, does make it a little noisy down the interstate. Feel safe driving it. Although the extended mirrors are nice, they vibrate so bad that you cannot see out of them going down the highway (even on a smooth highway). Had some difficulties with the mirrors sticking in retract mode. Gas mileage is TERRIBLE! Averaging 11.7 miles per gallon. I have used 1,100 gallons of fuel since April, with approximately 13,000 miles on it, not pulling any weight.
Favorite Features
* Design and look of the truck * Charcoal gray color has 3 metallic colors * Raised hood, fog lamps are a lot brighter than previous GM vehicle * Sound of stock exhaust is neat * Plenty of HP
Suggested Improvements
* A way to better gas mileage * With our technology, we should be able to get better than 11 mpg. * Better stereo system, even the bose system does not sound that great. * Back speakers went out in my truck already (taking it for warranty work) Mirrors vibrate down interstate. Need better desig

Best truck I ever owned

I pull a 28 ft race car trailer every weekend. This is the best truck I have ever owned. Plenty of power and torque. The truck is stable while pulling. No more getting blown around when a semi passes me. The interior is roomy enough for my two kids and no problem parking it when we go to the store. The power is impressive! Not as impressive as my dragster. However, the dragster goes from zero to 60 in one second.
Favorite Features
Power and stable while pulling a big load.
Suggested Improvements
Need to make custom parts (custom body kits and chrome)for this truck. Just like Harley Davidson does.

Review
Good basic work truck. This is a 2005 2500HD 4X4, regular cab, 6.0 w/manual trans. The manual transmission helps the fuel economy if you keep your foot light on the gas pedal. The first 3000 miles (first month) has been very satisfactory. Highway fuel economy is been slightly over 17 when running 2300 rpms or less. City average about 13.5. Weekly average of mixed hwy/city about 15. Towing (boat) at highway speeds about 13/14.
Favorite Features
Great visability. Good seat - Get the seat upgrade cause this truck has a stiff ride. Best feature --it's American -- some of us still remember what that means.
Suggested Improvements
Get rid of the plastic on the front and put some real bumpers on this truck. Leave the cheap grey/black plastic to Ford, Dodge, and the import toys. Keep offering manual transmissions -- some of us know how to use them and appreciate the improved fuel economy and better off road and work capability.

I have to say this truck is awsome! I own several semi trucks and Chevrolet has spent alot of time designing this Duramax. I have the LLY and I pull a 10,000lb trailer and don't even know it's back there! The best thing they could do for this truck is ride height increase! It's no taller than a Colorado! But overall, it's one tough truck! The Duramax is the quietest diesel on the market! I put a K&N air filter in with no increase in fuel mileage but, I am averaging 17mpg. city driving mostly.
Favorite Features
Tow mirrors w/turn signals and extended view. Ride is very smooth. 4 wheel disc brakes. Awesome stopping power!
Suggested Improvements
Tire size! It's a 3/4 ton! Lift it a little!

I spend at least 4 hours and 225 miles a day - 5 days a week, driving the '05 Silverado. Safety, comfort, and performance is a requirment for the truck I drive. This truck fulfills these requirments very nicely. The truck's four wheel disk brakes enables it to stop {loaded-3200lbs} quickly and safely. The interior is quiet and spacious. The large 8 way adjustable seats are akin to the recliner in my den. The lofty view of the road from this seat is unparalelled to any truck I have driven. The 6L engine enables me to move 3,000 lb. loads with ease. With the cruise control set, interstate driving is a pleasure with no downshifts for grade changes.
Favorite Features
The braking system is flawless. The interior is spacious, quiet, and comfortable. The sound system is fantastic. The view of the road is very nice.
Suggested Improvements
The availabilty of a navagation system would be nice.

Traded a great '04 Loaded LS Crew Cab SWB 4x4 W/LB7 D-Max & Allison in for Loaded LS Extended Cab 4x4 W/LLY D-MAX & Allison. Ride is much firmer, but this truck is 10" shorter than my other truck; therefore the reason for the firmer ride. I think the extended cab SWB in the 2500HD's look better than the rest, but this is soley my opinion. My LLY is getting 2 MPG (17.1 HWY)less than the LB7 was(19.2 HWY). Still decent MPG for a 402 CID engine. If you plan on keeping the truck for a long period of time or if you drive many miles yearly, get the D-MAX, either with auto or standard transmission. Overall, it will cost you less at the pumps than the gas engines, will last longer & have a higher resale.
Favorite Features
"Quiet and powerful" Duramax Turbo Charged diesel engine. "Stout" Allison transmission and its grade braking feature. XM Satelite radio w/Bose Speakers & premium sound system. Redundant steering wheel controls. Power folding mirrors & great looking alloy wheels.
Suggested Improvements
Interior is "dated". Needs upgrading & needs to be constructed of higher quality materials, not the cheap plastic junk being used now! Needs to have more (taller/wider) tire & wheel options! The stock 245's look dumb. Very little front & rear end ground clearance for off road 4x4 use with 245's.

Review
I've had nothing but very good experiences with this truck. It's roomy, comfortable, and pulls a good load. The DuraMax diesel is quiet and gives good fuel economy. Very sound and stable feeling.
Favorite Features
The DuraMax diesel is by far the best I've seen. It has good pulling power and is quiet. The fuel economy is very good for a truck in this weight class. I average 18.2 in the city and 21.1 on the highway driving the posted limit + 5.
Suggested Improvements
Don't like the front end looks. Need to come up with something that looks better. Would like to see the driver seat be a little more durable.
