Has an engine tick which Gen Mtrs. says is piston slap. Misses when any loading such as going up even a slight hill. Local dealer has been working with GM engineers was told currently is no fix? Told Gen. Mtrs. knew of a "FEW" 6.0L engines that do this. Should not have released them if they knew there was a problem. currently trying to get vehicle repaired/replaced under "Lemon Law". Vehicle only has 4500MI. on it.

This is the real deal when it comes to working trucks. It can haul serious heavy loads as well as run like the wind. It does all of this in a Cadillac comfort zone. Keep up the pace Chevy, the'll never catch you..

This truck has the power and the payload to do anything that I want to do. I have the 8.1L gas engine with the 5 speed Allison and as long as you keep your foot off the pedal, you can get about 15 mpg in the city. It also looks very good.
Favorite Features
I like it all.

The 2002 Chevrolet HD 2500 is pure pleaseure to drive! I love the raw power it delivers from the 6.0 engine. The interior is roomy, and the layout of the gauges and radio/ CD player is very functional. The interior does not have a inexpensive look as some reviewers state. The paint is very nice, with no orangepeel as with some vehicles. I really like the body style with the raised lines in the hood of the HD's, and the honeycomb grill. The trucks stance is also a plus, riding high above the rest of the traffic on attractive polished aluminum wheels. I have no criticism for the Chevrolet line of trucks.
Favorite Features
The horsepower that Chevrolet has been known for. I also just plain like the bodystyle. The CD/radio has a great sound.
Suggested Improvements
Make the sunvisors longer, and possibly tint the glass darker for those of us that live in states with high Summer temperatures. The floormats are somewhat thin.

The Duramax is very powerful, great response machine. Great fuel economy, average 20mpg in a crew cab 2wd. Seats are comfortable and driving is easy, and smooth for a 3/4 ton truck. Negatives: Vision to the sides and rear are limited, and cup holders not in a good place.
Favorite Features
Duramax Engine and smooth ride
Suggested Improvements
Mirrors and cup holders.

My Wife & I really like our new Silverado. The 6.6 liter Duramax Diesel with the Allison 5 speed automatic transmission is the perfect combination towing our 28 ft. trailer. Our trailer is concidered a liteweight at around 5,500 lbs. Our truck is capable of towing almost 12,000 . We have already towed our trailer a couple times and experienced no sway from Semi-trucks passing us up! That was a major problem we had with our smaller Astro minivan. As far as gas mileage goes- we got around 16 mpg towing (mostly highway driving). I tend to average about 55 mph on the highway. Driving solo- we get around 20 mpg combination highway & city driving.
Favorite Features
520 lbs of torque, tow-haul mode switch. The engine & tranny! The comfortable seats with lumber support. Roomy inerior / with our Extended Cab. The back seat folds up for extra storage. The 4x4 feature, air conditioner & heater are great. The cd player & radio sound great!

My husband and I purchased the crew cab, LT, diesel this weekend. We love it. For about the same amount of money and with all of the options on this truck - Ford could not begin to compete. Towing was no problem - the ride was just as comfortable with or without equipment attached.
Favorite Features
The ride is fantastice for a truck this size. The diesel engine is quiet. All of the extra goodie's GM put into this model is well appreciated - on star, rear window defogger, trans temp gauge, taul haul switch, driver seat memory. The list goes on and on.
Suggested Improvements
For heavy duty trailer package they should provide the electric break box. Step rails to get in. Please Please change the size of the tires - for such a new looking truck when you get to the tires that is a sore spot. Also, spray in a bed liner.

Engine knock. The dealer told me it was a lifter and that is normal to knock after start up. I took it in a few weeks ago about the start up knock again. This time I was given a bulletin from Chevrolet stating that they are experiencing this in several engine sizes. It is a piston slapping the cylinder that is causing the knock. Chevrolet says it is harmless and they are not going to do anything about it at this time. I've been told they are issuing 100,000 mi. warranties to those who continue to complain. This truck is cheap compared to my 1994 Chevy 1500 I had. This is my last Chevy PU.
