Can't beat the 8.1 Allison combo for pulling and towing. Ride is rough. I had electrical problems. It would just die and fail to restart for 5 min. to 3 hrs. then run fine. Never did get it resolved.
Favorite Features
LT package is best of all brands for comfort and features. Chevy leather seat blow the competition away. Ford ride is softer but seat are lacking comfort. 8.1L and allison is awsome combo if you pull a trailer daily.
Suggested Improvements
Ride needs to be softer

My '02 Duramax has been excelent to me. It is desined to pull around 10,000 lbs with a hitch, but I have pulled 15,000 lbs with no problem. My 18' goose neck is even easier to pull even when it is full of trash about the same weight. I love it.

The most comfortabvle vehicle I ever drove. We bought it because it was shorter overall and closer to the ground than its competitors. We use it for everything and it has been good. We had injector problems at 108,000, but they were paid by recall/extended warranty. Replaced front ball joints twice in 90,000 miles.
Favorite Features
Quiet diesel power
Suggested Improvements
Better seals on ball joints. The non- GM seem to be lasting longer.

Very tough truck in extremely tough conditions (Snow, Ice, Mud) and still with smooth ride. With longer wheelbase this truck is well balanced and apparently has good insulation because its very, very quite also. Added canopy, dual fans, dual exaust (flow master), converted to synthetic oil at 36K and sprayed bed with LineX. Now at 18MPG on HWY, 12-13 in town. Want to trade up to a Durmax but hard to give this unit up.

i bought thes truck brabd new and i loved it ever scince i saw it . the big hood looks mean and intimidating. the inside is big and comfortable. the dashborad is cheap and plastic. its got alot of low end power. the only problem i have is withe the engine - gmeblarged the pison heads and not the piston so now after 35,000 miles the 6.0 engine souds like a diesle. but i am overall happy with my truck
Favorite Features
sound system, power, roomieness, biggest truck out there
Suggested Improvements
turning radius - a pain to park, fuel economy, dash board plastics, and fix the engine (gm did in 2003)

dont get the small block 6.o you will get the same fuel mileage as the 8.1 and give up 45 horsepower.I tow a 14 ft enclosed trailer app. weight 4000 pounds loaded and I get 7 miles to the gallon. The gear ratio from 3rd to overdrive is to steep. making you drive in 3rd pulling a load the truck can not maintain 70 mph in overdrive. The headliners on three of my 2002hds look as if they were cut to small. The way the backseat folds down for storage is a joke. I have a very loud knock in the motor since new. The dealer tells me its normal then ask me if it burned a quart of oil every 3 thousand miles.Beware of the 6.o litre it has problems they won't admit to
Favorite Features
it has started every time Iv'e needed it to so far.

Standard larger fuel tank. pulling a trailer your lucky to get 190 miles to a tank. light the map light buttons. they are the only ones not lit and you only need them when its dark DUH.
Love My Allison Tranny!
Vehicle
2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4dr Extended Cab LT 4WD SB (6.0L 8cyl 4A)
Review
For every day driving in southern California, also to haul horses, fuel economy has been good, the diesel engine surprisingly quiet. The Allison tranny holds speed going down hill. After hauling horses with the Allison tranny, through incredibly smooth decelerations, I don't think I'll go back to brand X. All in all a Great truck, Very sporty ride compared to its predecessor.
Favorite Features
As stated above, I'm thrilled with the Allison tranny, but think the entire truck overall is a great buy. It handles well, goes off road when needed with the 4WD, pulls anything I've asked it to. Good air conditioning, the heated seats are great in cold weather.
Suggested Improvements
Redesign the seat for folks who like to sit up straight! I know the seat was designed for the male torso, but as females increasingly buy trucks, they just don't fit, in fact can be painful to drive any distance with the lumbar support jabbing in the small of the back.

Have had continued problems with the drive train, from transmission noise to multiple problems with the front and rear differentials noise and leaking. Vehicle seems reliable in most cases, but leaves that nagging feeling that once the warranty is off I'm going to be looking at repairs on a low milage vehicle (only averages 500 per month). Much fun to drive, but the overall fuel mileage is a w f u l, but that goes with the territory of the 6L engine and the rear end selection.

I have no real complaints about the truck. I have over 25K miles on it and I've had no problems. The suspension is a little stiffer than other trucks I've owned which makes the ride a bit choppy. When the engine is cold I do get the "piston slap" but I have been told that this is just the way the engine was designed. Great Truck
Favorite Features
I like the Climate controls and the reliablility of the truck.

Smoother ride.

I bought this truck because I liked the way it looked over the half-ton. I am completely satisfied by it so far. The performance is unbelieveable a true strong running truck. My truck has the 6.0L in it more than enough power. But I have added dual exhaust and plan on an intake system in the near future. Still it has more power than other pickups when it was stock. I have had no mechanical problems yet. Just a little rattle under the dash. I highly recomend this truck.
Favorite Features
I like the power of the 6.0L engine and the limited slip diff. The truck also rides smoothe for a heavey duty 3/4 ton. The front clip looks good. The 4.10 gears are real stump pulling power also.
Suggested Improvements
The tires that are on the truck are small 245/75/16. They should be taller, the tires & wheels look like dounuts. I am going to install 285/75/16 tires on new 16x8 wheels. And the truck is kinda higher priced higher than others.
