Not a durable work truck.,

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck 2dr Regular Cab 8 ft. LB (4.3L 6cyl 5M)

While It has great mileage for a full size truck, there are few other aspects that I like about it. I didn't expect much from the v-6 but this is bad, I can deal without acceleration but it delivers poor torque while loaded or towing. I like a sparse interior, this one feels cheap. Seats are uncomfortable, I hate having the seatbelt in the seat, always seems to ride up to my neck and is not adjustable (it happens to people of different body types as me). Under dash, loose wires everywhere. Minor issues are starting to appear $30 here and $40 there, wont break the bank but annoying. Poor handling, spongy suspension, like a 1976 wagon. Least favorite vehicle I've ever owned.
Favorite Features
Payload, Fuel economy.
Suggested Improvements
GM better overhaul its whole way of thinking to survive.

i really believe there should have been recalls on this truck. All of the following repairs were needed in the first 36 months i owned this truck: ABS went out; front axle seals continue to leak; rotors were replaced on both sides; nearly lost control of the truck on the highway when the front wheel bearings gave out; the 4 wheel drive automatic switch broke and shut down the 4x4 function; the driver's side door panel came loose and the entire panel had to be replaced; the plastic hinge for the center console broke off, etc etc.. Again, i believe that there should have been or should be a safety recall on this truck. Buyer beware. Thank goodness this is a leased vehicle and i return it.
Favorite Features
comfortable to drive, but this is not a reliable truck in my opinion.
Suggested Improvements
Chevy needs to get back building trucks like they did years ago ..... like a rock. The "quality control" process, was really lacking.
Best truck ever

We purchased this truck new for the highways and mountains of New Mexico. With 30,000 miles now it has never had to go back to the dealer for any warranty or repairs! Looks good with no rattles or problems and it's solid. About 17 mpg overall. 4.11 gears and rated for 8500 lbs towing, if needed. I've owned lots of Chevys and this is the best truck ever.
Favorite Features
Manual 4WD on the floor so I'm in 2WD most of the time, or select 4WD High on the go. Nice soft, comfortable seats with lots of room.
Suggested Improvements
None.

Leather still looks new 3 years later. carpet is good and held up well. my husband is really tall.. and I am short.. the drive 1 and 2 has been wonderful. Looking forward to moving up to the 2500
Favorite Features

car charger needs to be somewhere else other than where a person would also be putting their soda.... and well there goes the phone!

06 Silverado 1500 with Vortec Max package. I purchased this truck in Feb. of 08 after being T-boned in my 99 Sierra. I had been looking for the bigger 6 L. motor to pull my work trailer for a long period of time before the accident. Luckily this gem popped up when I really had to buy. I fell in love at first drive. The motor's power really is something else. It responds immediately at any speed when even light pedal is put down. Mileage with this motor is great. It actually puts my old 5.3 to shame. I average 13 city(Downtown Minneapolis: True stop and go) and @ 50-55 MPH: 21 MPG/@75 MPH 18MPG. It has all the bells and whistles. Great for towing. Love it!
Favorite Features
Heated leather, Vortec Max package, Steering wheel controls, 4th door, Gas mileage(for a truck)
Suggested Improvements
Better change holder........Maybe an integrated brake controller. Turning on the climate control could be easier. Also, do not like the new bright/dim headlight setup.

service airbag light

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck 2dr Regular Cab 4WD 8 ft. LB (4.3L 6cyl 5M)
Review
I bought this truck tom replace my 97 s10 because I needed a bigger truck for my business. Great truck for hauling, towing, and comfort. But I've had a problem wiht the service air bag light and its been to 2 different dealers a total of 11 times for the same problem. Its been in for the intermediate shaft, front and the front rotors plus a clip to open the door. To many stupid little things that should not happen and the airbag problem that should have been fixed already.
Favorite Features
All in all a good truck for towing and hauling and comfortable.
Suggested Improvements
Stop using inadequate rotors and intermediate shafts and a self destructing intake manifolds at around 70k and they might get some of there lost customers back. To many little things that shouldn't happen.

I Really Enjoy My Truck.

I had owned many cars & SUV's (both small & large) and had always wanted a full size pickup truck. I purchased my Silverado and have never been sorry since. I am in the process of purchasing an extended warranty to cover my truck once the manufacturer's warranty runs out in August of this year. The truck is solid & sound, very comfortable with enough power to handle whatever I need. I have the 5.3L V8 4X4 crew cab. The room interior comfort and roominess is hard to find in other trucks. I work for a Ford dealership in sales and have sold/driven most other types of trucks. I have not found one yet that have felt as safe & comfortable as my Silverado!

I use this truck for a meat packing plant I own. It has a lot of power and hauls meat, my boats, and a huge trailer of deer hides very well. I never had a mecanical failure on it before. I smoked a deer with it and it had a lot of damage to the front and fender (which still was never fixed right becouse the front bumper and grille is not centered very well). I also like the acceleration on it. Overall I love this truck.
Favorite Features
Power, great towing, smooth ride, greet gas mileage, and exterior design.
Suggested Improvements
The interior is a little plain, but it is just a truck,

This was my second Chevy pickup, my first being a '57 stepside. Since that old Chevy, I had evidently been spoiled by a few Fords, two Nissans and a Dodge. No complaints on any of those other pickups, but this Chevy must've been a lemon. Everything from the battery to the temperature control to the transmission gave me trouble in the 9 months that I've had it.
Favorite Features
I was quite fond of the body style. It was a nice looking truck.
Suggested Improvements
Attention to detail in the QC department would be nice!

My 12th work truck

2006 LT1 Extended cab, shortbox, 5.3LV8 4X4. I have had 12 company owned trucks so far, 8 of 'em Chevys. Even though we had to replace a transmission at 88,000 miles, I still rated this vehicle very high on reliability because the drive train hasn't changed in several years and this was the first major problem I've ever encountered in 400,000+ miles driving late model Chevy pickups. Heck, my 2006 still has the original brake pads at 111,000 miles! Flat, freeway driving averages about 17.5 mpg, drops to about 13mpg if light duty towing (boat). Very comfortable for long distance driving.
Favorite Features
Quiet, comfortable ride, good visibility. Goes into and out of 4WD easily, absolutely excellent in snow and on ice. Very reliable.
Suggested Improvements
You can't get the wipers away from the windshield to wash it!
