My 12th work truck
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT3 4dr Crew Cab 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
2006 LT1 Extended cab, shortbox, 5.3LV8 4X4. I have had 12 company owned trucks so far, 8 of 'em Chevys. Even though we had to replace a transmission at 88,000 miles, I still rated this vehicle very high on reliability because the drive train hasn't changed in several years and this was the first major problem I've ever encountered in 400,000+ miles driving late model Chevy pickups. Heck, my 2006 still has the original brake pads at 111,000 miles! Flat, freeway driving averages about 17.5 mpg, drops to about 13mpg if light duty towing (boat). Very comfortable for long distance driving.
Favorite Features
Quiet, comfortable ride, good visibility. Goes into and out of 4WD easily, absolutely excellent in snow and on ice. Very reliable.
Suggested Improvements
You can't get the wipers away from the windshield to wash it!

Incredible
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck 2dr Regular Cab 4WD 6.5 ft. SB (4.3L 6cyl 5M)
Review
I bought a the 4wd work truck with the upgraded chrome package and seats. It also had the chrome 20 inch Chevy bowtie rims. Absolutely beautiful truck. This is when they came out with the split grille that is much better looking than the 2003-2005 models. Very pleased with this truck. The only reason I got rid of it was because of a round trip commute to work of 60 miles. Gas was going up and I had to do something. I really regret getting rid of it.
Favorite Features
Everything.
Suggested Improvements
Better gas mileage out of the 4wd lineup.
Brakes on my Chevy

I have driven a Chevy truck for about 20 years now. This 2006 is the first one I've ever had trouble with. Took it back to the dealership in Opelika, Alabama a total of 7 times to get the brakes looked at. Warning lights kept coming on and also the car phone charger hasn't worked since the day it came off the lot. I'm really disappointed in Chevy with this truck. The dealership would not fix it while it was under warranty and the brakes are still having major problems. Hate to say this but probably will not buy another new Chevy.
Favorite Features
Color, body style and look of the truck.
Suggested Improvements
Chevy needs to look into keeping the quality in their products... really disappointed in the new trucks. Brake system on my 2006 Silverado is the pits.

Always wanted a Z71
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT2 4dr Crew Cab 4WD 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 4A)

All in all, a good truck. Hate the tires that came with it, Bridgestones. Why I couldn't get lucky and get the Goodyear Wranglers. I have the LT2 package, and you would think I would have a mirror on the driver's visor (I chew, so I have to check my teeth prior to meetings). Hate the 6 disc cd player, still confused on how to work it and I have owned the truck for 2 years now. Little plastic caps keep falling off the door that cover the screws. I would also like to know if there is a way for the dual climate control to move on both sides. I hate having to move mine to, say 68, then the passengers side to 68 as well.
Favorite Features
4WD Crew Cab. Able to load the entire family of 5 up to go either out to eat, or camping.
Suggested Improvements
Horrible Bridgestones, every tire has had a flat, mirror on driver's visor, steering is tough, upgrade the dual ac controls.

My 5th Chevy truck
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT2 4dr Extended Cab 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
I have always driven a Chevy truck from a 1968 to a 2006. The power and performance of this truck is perfect. My friend has a pontoon boat that looks big as a house. No problem, hook it up and we're gone. And a very comfortable ride also. Long or short drive no problem. My next truck will be a Chevy truck. The best truck there is.
Favorite Features
Electric seats, windows, mirrors. And an AC that will have you blowing smoke out your mouth.
Suggested Improvements
Nothing needs to be changed.

Perfect Truck for me
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT2 4dr Crew Cab 4WD 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
Basically I'm a home-owner and fix it guy. Needed a truck to drive for sales calls and around the house to haul and do home fix its. Perfect truck is this! Crew cab is huge, short bed is no problem with plywood/drywall. Simple interior but nice and respectable--much nicer than Toyotas (the other truck I was considering--T has weak engine too at 4.7).
Favorite Features
Two tone leather seats. Good gas mileage for a full size truck
Suggested Improvements
Wood panel (Denali-like) interior

Vehicle has very good performance and handling characteristics for work application on the farm. Power is more than sufficient for any work or load requirements in the farm operation. Ease of use and performance of 4 wheel drive is excellent.
Favorite Features
Six cylinder engine with automatic transmission and two and four wheel drive availability.
Suggested Improvements
Keyless entry and electric door locks and windows.

I bought this 2006 Silverado and drive it off of the Lot and the next day it was back at the dealer for a repair of the alternator. Then at 9000 miles in for a tranny seal. Then at 17000 miles for the OnStar antenna falling off and the visor falling off and hitting my wife in the head. The truck has been good on gas avg of 20 Hwy 16 city. Not too bad. But as many times as it has been to the dealer for things breaking that should never break. I just bought a 2008 Ford Fusion for work and will be solidly in the Ford camp now.
Favorite Features
Digital climate control. XM radio. The power. Highway manners. Best mileage in its class.
Suggested Improvements
Build quality. The cost of OnStar compaered to the amount of usage. Crummy tires from the factory. More towing capacity. 6000lbs isn't enough when the F-150 has 9100.

2006 Chevy Silverado 4WD WT 4.8L

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck 2dr Regular Cab 4WD 6.5 ft. SB (4.3L 6cyl 5M)

Great truck! I have owned many Chevy trucks and this is the best one so far! I definitely prefer the V8. Better gas mileage and power than the 4.3L V6. Fit and build flawless. Sure footed in ice and snow.
Favorite Features
V8 power. Fit and finish. Quiet and comfortable to drive.
Suggested Improvements
My truck is the regular cab, short bed. I would have preferred it with the extended cab but extra cost was out of my reach and unreasonable.

Major Dissapointment
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT1 4dr Crew Cab 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
Bought the Silverado new in June of 06. Since then, I had a leaky radiator hose, replaced the whole front differential, a transmission leak, numerous steering problems, brake lights went out twice and a few other minor problems. Very dissapointed in this truck. My first new truck and it is nothing but a constant problem. It is in the shop now for a moaning noise in the 4x4 when turning. I am looking at an 08 Tundra or Sierra to replace this mess of a truck. Great power from the engine and ride is great. Gas mileage is okay with about 12 city and up to 17-18 highway.
Favorite Features
Tow/haul button, auto 4x4, towing package.
Suggested Improvements
Do something about the tailgate. It is hard to open. Storage compartments on door side are too narrow. Back doors need to open wider like my 02 Ram. Needs to sit a bit higher. Needs a 4x4 indicator. Reliability is an obvious mess.
