2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4dr Extended Cab 4WD SB (4.8L 8cyl 4A)
Review
This replaces my Toyota Truck. Looked at Ford, Dodge, and Toyota. The Ford did handle and ride better, but the Silverado provides more backseat space for passengers (ext cab) and does better with gas mileage. Seemed quicker, too. I surved others on reliability and found the newer Silverados to be very good. Interior is fine--I bought a truck, not a luxury car, afterall. Very good blend of performance, comfort, MPG, toughness, pracicality and price.
Favorite Features
Smooth powerful V8 with best-in-class MPG. Strong chassis; very quiet ride. Good value, blend of features.
Suggested Improvements
Could handle better.
Not perfect, but better than the rest

I have had this truck for almost 3 months now and have found it to be great for what I need. As I saw in another review, there is some engine pinging at highways speeds and the tranny does have some sort of clunk to it, especially between 2 and 3 gears, but outside of that the truck have been perfect. Rides better than Ford or Dodge and gas mileage is acceptble at about 17mpg in hilly terrain with lots of stop and gos. Towed well for the 1 time I towed about 3000lbs, hardly noticable. I would buy another given the chance and would suggest potential buyers to test drive before making their decision comparing it to Ford and Dodge.
Favorite Features
4x4 system, XM satellite radio, ride and feel of the truck.
Suggested Improvements
More power wouldn't be a bad thing, though at 295hp and 335tq, not really required. 5 speed auto would work wonders for this engine and truck!
The best truck yet

This is my 3rd Chevy truck and this is the best by far. I have more than enough power to get up and move (More than fFrd and Dodge). I have lots of room for passengers (More than Ford or Dodge). I really love this truck. No problems as of yet.
Favorite Features
The 4.8l engine, comfort, room, towing, climbing of mountains
Suggested Improvements
Put disc brakes on the rear.
Not a good ride

Very bouncy rear end, not a pleasant ride even on smooth roads. GM says it is charteristic of this model, nothing they can do. Even with a load in the bed (1000+ lbs.) it still rides stiff. Had a 2004 model that was great, service mgr said they changed the design (both 4x4). I made the mistake of not driving the truck before purchase - assumed it would be the same as my 04. I would not have purchased this truck had I known. Looking for help from GM for 3 months but, to no avail. I switched to Michelin tires, some help but, still wears me out to drive long distances.

Suggested Improvements
Fix shocks and/or springs in rear to provide a smooth ride.

By far the best truck I drove. I have a 5600lb boat and I don't even know its behind me most of the time. Great room inside and more standard features than Dodge or Ford. I LOVE my truck

Dual zone air. Bose stereo. OnStar

If it ain't broke, don't fix it
Excellent Truck For Towing

Review
I have owned my Silverado for about 6 months now, and I have had not one problem with the design quality. The engine performance is superb and towing isnt a problem. My 4wd reg cab SB can tow a impressivly 8,100lbs with the v8 5300. I normally tow about 4500lbs with the factory hitch at 80mph effortlessly. Towing like this, there are no major shakes or rattles, bumps are smooth and the truck handles great. I have driven a non Z71 and it was a bit smoother on pavement compared to the stardard base. But offroad performance is much better.

Automatic 4x4 - on the fly 4x4 - automatic locking read differential - Seating is very comfortable on long mile trips (1000+)
Suggested Improvements
Interior - plastic trim, and dash. Dont get me wrong, the interior is NICE, but the cheaper plastic dash and trim panels could use some improvement. It's a TRUCK so it should'nt be equipped with a cheap-o carpet headlight. I think a vinyl headliner is one thing GM should change.

This is the 2nd Silverado I have had. The new one is merely a lower mileage upgrade with more warranty. It is a great truck with no real huge problems except... the linkage in the tranny doesn't drop all of the time when you come to a complete stop from about 60mph. Also, the stock tires throw rocks like crazy!! I am a die-hard chevrolet guy though and this is the price that you pay for being brand loyal. I think overall, the truck is a good buy but just make sure you purchase the extended warranty if you are planning on keeping the truck. You won't regret it when something fails on you.
Favorite Features
Definitely the Bose and the XM. But more realistically, the 310hp H.O. 5.3L that gets 21mpg on the interstate at 72 mph with the 3.43 gears.
Suggested Improvements
Get going on a better transmission. Why is it that the consumer has to baby it to make it last?? I want something that is "BUILT LIKE A ROCK"!!!
Poorly made truck

I only have 1100 miles on my truck and it already has major problems! I've been into the dealership several times and they say theres nothing they can do and GM won't do anything either. The interior is CHEAP, the climate control has electrical problems, the truck leans noticibly to one side,& the transmission has major issues. It clunks & slams into gear like a 20 yr old truck. The leather has more defects than I can count. I am very sorry I bought this truck. I feel like I am stuck with a lemon.
Favorite Features
The XM radio and sound system are nice.
Suggested Improvements
At 9-10 mpg, gas mileage could be better. Transmission issues need to be worked out (dealer said its a common complaint)and electronic problems with climate control need to be corrected. (My previous GM product had problems with climate control also-guess its an ongoing problem).

It rides great. Big but nimble. Underpowered on the highway. There's a constant pinging at 70 mph and up that's very annoying. The tow package is perfect for around town, perfectly bad for the highway
Favorite Features
Bose system

Bigger motor, 5 speed transmission instead of 4
Just a great truck

So far so good. I have had the truck for a few months now and no problems whatsoever. I would have liked a little more power out of the 5.3, but I guess this helps with fuel economy. With Ford and Dodge averaging 12-15 and my Chevy getting 17 I should be happy since it is a full size truck.
Favorite Features
Looks great. Tons of room in the crew cab. Almost too much room. Overall a great truck
Suggested Improvements
Bigger bed in the crew cab. Would be great to get a 6'6" bed instead of the 5'9". Need more ground cleance. Needs more power in the 5.3
