Poor Build Quality

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4dr Extended Cab Work Truck Rwd SB (4.3L 6cyl 4A)
Review
Not very satisfied. It was a nice ride at first, but after it gets broken in it becomes like a tank and things start falling apart. The "like a rock" statement is long gone and I will never own another Chevy truck again if this is their new standard. My '86 pickup lasted well over 200,000 miles with no major problems but apparently you can't expect the same quality anymore.
Favorite Features
Roomy interior
Suggested Improvements
Need better quality materials on the interior. Moldings and trim don't last when actually working out of this truck. Also the mechanical quality is very questionable. Out of alignment twice in 33,000 miles and truck is not driven that hard. Also had steering shaft problems.

The power & driveabity are exellent but there are some problems with the transmission & differential I need to take up with my dealership soon. The transmission will slip & catch somtimes. The differential will make a clunking noise when traction is bad on an upgrade.
Favorite Features
Apperance, nice ride, good dash layout, power
Suggested Improvements
Provide better shocks, tires.

I love this truck. I have never had a problem with a Chevy truck. I use mine as a truck it tows and hauls practically every day. I like my truck because I drove it home and it has not had any problems whatsoever.

This vehicle has the comfort of a car while not giving up power of a truck. It is a pleasure to drive. This truck is very user friendly, everything is at my fingertips.

Excellent truck. Good strong drivetrain with acceptable fuel mileage. Useability is great with the longbed. A standard cd player would have been nice, but its a good transportation truck that is great on long trips. Cant wait for deer season. Gas mileage will increase as time goes on and mileage piles on.

I really do enjoy driving this new Chevy. I have been a Chevy man since my first at 16 years old, a 1956 black 2 door sedan. Wish I still had it!! I like its smooth handling, it's tough, rugged, raw power. I take it out on the beach with my lady, who is a surfer, and with its 17 inch wheels, it is an effortless task. It also handles all my fishing gear with plenty of room to spare. With two sons and three grandsons, everyone rides in comfort! I also do a bit of yard work here and there, and towing my tractor is a breeze! Power, comfort, dependability, and it's a Chevy. What more could a guy ask for!
Favorite Features
Power is great, and comfort is superb!
Suggested Improvements
Maybe a better cubby for gadgets and sun glasses. Tie downs both up on rail and in floor bed.

Awesome truck! The only thing I wasn't pleased with was the comfort of the seats on a long trip but any seat would be uncomfortable on a long trip. Was in a major, frontal car accident with this truck and it was the only thing that saved my life!
Favorite Features
Dual climate zone, steering wheel controls, onstar, crew cab, comfortable, smooth ride.
Suggested Improvements
Better placement of a/c vents for passenger.

I had a problem with an coolant leak shortly after I got the truck. Dealership found a cut hose and replaced it. Had a condensation/fogging problem because a "gate" wasn't opening. That took longer, but we found the problem and fixed it. Truck is straight forward and functional. I would have loved standard transmission. Chose this over Nissan, Toyota, Ford, and Dodge.
Favorite Features
Lots of power (310hp), CD player and great sound, solid truck, rides well (trip from Erie to Birmingham and back), 4wd is great in snow.
Suggested Improvements
I would like to see front center foldable seat back, mine is fixed.

This is my 3rd Chevrolet truck, and the best by far. Previous were an 89 that I drove to 125K miles, then a 1996 to 165K miles, and finally this one. Could not be more pleased with the comfort, performance, and convenience. Plus, I am seeing 18 to 19 mpg if I keep my speed around 70 on the highways.
Favorite Features
4 doors is so much nicer than extended cabs. Also the ride and build quality is far beyond the 1996 or 1989 that I had. And the prices have not gone up significantly.
Suggested Improvements
I wish you could get a full size bed on a 1500 without going to the HD or the 2500. Also would like a few more storage bins in the back seat.
