This truck never worked a day it's life!
Vehicle
2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4dr Extended Cab LT Rwd SB (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
I have owned several trucks-all of which have been GM products-and this one is horrible! The 'check 4X4' light is on regularly, even though this truck has not been in 4WD more than twice, and under no load. I had to have 3 injectors, a mass airflow sensor, the catalytic converter and all new plugs replaced at 41K-just outside of warranty. The wiper motor just went kaput at 52K, and the dealership service department has been less than sympathetic. This truck has been basic transportation and never towed/hauled anything! Never had to work a day in it's life! As a-soon-to- be former loyal GM fan, I'm going to trade it ASAP on a Toyota or Nissan.
Favorite Features
The performance (when it's not in the shop) is OK. Interior is like a Caddy and the Bose stereo is why I've kept it so long.
Suggested Improvements
Reliability...hear me, GM?? The quality of this 5.3 stinks. The 5.7 was far superior. My last truck had well over 100K and never had to go to the shop, never leaked, and didn't burn oil. For $40,000, I could have bought a Tundra AND a Corolla...

A loaded truck for once

This truck replaced a '91 S10 2wd that was bought new and was faithful its whole life but the rust finally deemed the little truck a loss. This time 4wd and extended cab were musts and this truck was sitting there waiting for us with 27k on the clock and clean as can be. As you can imagine the difference between the 2 is huge and this brute makes you king of the road with the height, the 5.3 under the hood, and these leather seats that I'd never think would be in a Chevy pickup. This truck is wonderful and with a couple personal touches it will probably be in the family until it turns to dust.
Favorite Features
Seats, height, sound system, engine power, 4wd, 16 inch wheels (tires are cheaper), cd changer in the dash
Suggested Improvements
1-2 shift is horrible on light throttle. Chevy tried to make it soft and less undetectable, it will get a shift kit as soon as warranty is up. Would rather have a 4wd shifter than buttons, rear brakes have been done twice, pedal is a little soft, badly done rear disc system, improvements will be done

We usually buy a new truck every two years. We have kept this truck because we both love it. It is so much fun to drive. My wife comes home from driving it and says I LOVE THIS TRUCK. The Quadra Steer is the best thing I've every bought. No problems with the truck.
Favorite Features
Quarda Steer. Fantastic driving.
Suggested Improvements
Leave it alone.

I love my truck. It is comfortable to drive, easy to handle and I feel safe and secure at all times. Going from a small 4 dr sedan to a full size truck, gave me more visability on the road. I have had no mechanical problems. I just do the normal maintenance and she runs like a dream.
Favorite Features
Comfort of interior, seats especially
Suggested Improvements
Postition of the rear view mirror blocks vision when driving. CD player heats up CD's while playing.

Unsafe to drive

Transmission pauses after coasting or when starting out. After coasting causes a heavy jerk on driveshaft and rearend. Dealer put rubber in springs to damper clunk. When turning a corner the pause in the transmission causes a sudden acceleration that causes the rear wheels to loose traction putting the truck into a sideways slide causing loss of control of vehicle at times. Also the small V-8 that GM puts in this truck has piston slap that the dealer says is "normal". I call it a design flaw. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart before I decide to get rid of it. I'm a GM employee, and I beleive in supporting my paycheck source, but I believe in getting a quality product for my buck.
Favorite Features
Great interior, Great exterior design, Good milage
Suggested Improvements
Fix the transmission problems and piston slap.

I was skeptical about getting a truck, but after driving this one I would recommend it to anyone. The ride is smooth and the gas mileage is way better than that listed on the sticker. The resale value is also excellent.
Favorite Features
Gas mileage, comfort, dependability and price.
Suggested Improvements
Better traction, better tires that come standard with the vehicle.
Best truck I ever owned

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2dr Regular Cab Work Truck 4WD LB (4.3L 6cyl 5M)
Review
This truck is, by far, superior to any other truck in its class when it comes to driving comfort and in-cab options. The quadrasteer option is unbelievable, and I use it every single day. Just feel that is was marketed to the wrong crowd (1500 chasis) All in all my next truck will again, without a doubt, be a Chevy except this time I'm steppin' up to a crew cab diesel! But I'm sure gonna miss the quadrasteer!
Favorite Features
Quadrasteer, Leather, Instrument panel display

Ext. cab doors make alot of squeaks

Only options were automatic trans., HD suspension (Z85) and larger tires. 4.3 liter V6 and 3.42 axle were adequate almost all the time. Occasionally towed a 2,000 ATV trailer and it did well, but I would say the 3.73 axle would have been better with the six. Got as much as 21 mpg on hwy. Very bright headlights, comfortable ride. Dash looks cheap and flimsy, with painted plastic surfaces everywhere. Problems I had in 2 years were ABS module failure, AC compressor failure, and steering intermediate shaft clunk (common problem!), all repaired under warranty.
Favorite Features
V6 is surprisingly powerful on the low RPM end. Runs out of breath a bit if you need high speed passing, but normally not a bad choice if you do no heavy towing.
Suggested Improvements
Front end is ugly, period. What were they thinking.... The brakes on this year are terrible! You would think that rear disks would be good, but NO. Almost dangerously underpowered brakes!

This truck has 4 wheel drive and gets 18 mpg running around town. Much better than my 2000 Ford f150 two wheel drive which got 17 mpg. Have had no trouble and love the off road capabilitys. The Firestone tires are about to be replaced at 50000 miles, again much better then the Ford.
Favorite Features
Audio system and the quiet ride
Suggested Improvements
Whenever possible , better gas mileage

This truck has plenty of power for pulling my 18 ft alumacraft boat. I threw on a knn fipk cold air intake and that is saving me some money because it really helps with gas mileage
