I scrounged for the money for a proper diagnostic and it turns out both upstream o2 sensors need to be replaced and the max airflow sensor as well. The damage is going to be 1000 dollars. Thanks for the reply Read More...

Take it to an auto parts store and have them download the trouble code. It should tell you which sensor is bad. To change the problematic sensor requires a special socket which can be bought at that parts store along with an aftermarket O2 sensor. That's about as inexpensive as it's going to get. Read More...

I took my truck to Part Source when the engine light came on. They hooked up thier code reader to it and it said that it could be a misfire or an oxygen sensor in bank 1. I have two 1999 Silverados one a 1500 with a 5.3L and the other a 2500 with the 6.0L. The exhaust manifold bolts on the left and right banks are broken off. The Chevy dealer charges over $450/labor plus parts on each bank provided that they dont have to pull the head off. We own a 2002 Silverado Z71 and a 2000 Toyota Tundra SR5 V8. The Silverado has 13,000 miles on it and the Tundra has 40,000. The Silverado has had one catastrophic failure (oil pump at 1200 mi) and a balky tailgate.
