I’m new to this forum. Sorry for the long post: I started researching a rust problem on my truck, and it didn’t take long for find this discussion. My truck is a 2001 Chevy Silverado, 2500 HD, and has only 33K miles. I bought it brand new. With low mileage, I’m expecting it to last my lifetime. Most of the driving lately has been Wisconsin winter driving – when my Honda ... Read More

Hateful Jim here- At this point, i'm just trying to pay this piece of plastic crap off, although i bought it USED, and still had to pay about 12000.00 for it. I still owe about 2500.00 on it, and it only has about 134000 miles on it. Was driving down the highway sunday, and right out of the blue, the transmission goes out. Fluid level was fine, smells ok, a little ... Read More

I was given a 2001 chevy silverado 2500 6.0l vortec. Its has 297,500 miles on it and runs very good, but however i have this tapping noise like everyone else have. But in my case, its at the start, during, and finish of my trip driving. My question is, "Will a 20/50 oil help or what would someone with experience suggest?" Thank-you in advance for any help. Here is my perspective, the vehicle issues you have described, have been seen by myself (my eyes),on a truck 2000 HD 2500 chevy, the vehicle was lightly driven and the rotors literally rusted over (both rear rotors). To describe what I saw was that the rotor was rusting over from the outside >to> inside where one inch of shinny rotor metal was available for seating with the pads and calipers, should ... I am not sure its the front rotors and calipers ...are a problem.. but rather the symptom. I have put new rear calipers from SSBC on my 2003 GMC Sierra, not sure it matters what type, but rather the rear calipers are swapped for something that works. I also added brake SS-lines. I drive in Boston traffice weekly and have for about 35-45k miles on top of the 45k i had ... Read More

Good evening, I just started to have a problem with my '01 Silverado, 6.0L V8, 2500, 4.10 rear. When I start out up a hill from a dead stop, the engine goes through its gears while accelerating normally. But, when the speed levels out at 45-50 mph and the tach shows a drop to a lower gear (while still going uphill) the truck feels like it's jerking. As soon as I ... Read More

Everything that could possibly to wrong with GM's crappy engeniering did go wrong. We traded in our 2001 F-350 7.3L PSD..best truck possibly ever owned. I would give the world have it back over this heap. Time was taking it's toll on the Ford, but it still ran ... Read More

I don't have an answer but I do share your frustration. I bought a very gently used (32,000 miles) 2001 2500 HD Duramax with the Allison transmission, to help out a friend. It was like a car/truck for me, nice soft ride, quiet engine, strong enough to pull a trailer or haul a load of grain if I had to but not for heavy work. I did not work it hard, ... Read More
