2014 Chevrolet Silverado: Road Trip MPG

May 7, 2014

2014 Chevrolet Silverado

I drove our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado to Arizona last weekend. Though most of the miles were on the highway, the truck averaged 19.4 mpg over 1,120 miles. The EPA rates the truck at 19 mpg combined (16 city/23 highway).

Its best tank, 20.6 mpg over 287 miles, came during the last leg of the trip which included temps in the 90s.

Tempurature not withstanding, that's a pretty big miss from the EPA estimate. What else might have affected it? Speed (it is still a somewhat aero brick), elevation, grades?

@bankerdanny Doesn't really seem to be a miss really besides if you hit any short of a headwind it would impact the mileage by at least this amount if not more.

I'm in the first few months of enjoying the new Silverado. Can you tell me if the gas mileage has improved as the engine has been broken in or has it remained pretty constant since new?
