2014 Chevrolet Silverado: Fuel Economy Update for July

August 2, 2013

2014 Chevrolet Silverado

We only took delivery of our new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado LT a couple of weeks ago, so it has barely had time to get broken in. With only 3 or 4 tanks through it so far, it's averaging just over 16 mpg with a best tank of 19.5 mpg.

Don't worry, though, there's a road trip on the agenda for the first week of August, so our Silverado will get another two thousand miles on it in short order. By then we'll know if it's capable of living up to its stated highway mileage of 23 mpg.

Ed Hellwig, Executive Editor @ 903 miles

Worst Fill MPG: 12.5
Best Fill MPG: 19.5
Average Lifetime MPG: 16.3
EPA MPG Rating: 19 Combined (16 City / 23 Highway)
Best Range: 351.1 miles
Current Odometer: 903 miles

Decent considering so few miles on the engine. Very good compared to my 05 Trailblazer. Haven't gotten over 16 MPG ever. She's a thirsty one.

But it's a shame that in America it is considered all but mandatory to use a full-size pickup getting that kind of fuel (in)efficiency to tow even the most modest load.

Could you please identify the size and type tires on your vehicle and the air pressure you have them inflated to. I find on my 2005 Suburban air pressure variances affect my gas mileage. Thanks.
