Try and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and see if it makes any difference. Disconnecting the negative wire will suffice.

so about 2 weeks ago my truck started loosing power but i have not got the "reduced engine power" notification, also when shifting from first to seccond, it shifts a little harder than normal and once it shifts the rpm's drop to around 500 and the truck wants to die, so naturally i press the pedal more and it gets up to about 2000 rpm's and just stays there regardless of ... I have a 2003 chevy silverado 1500 4x4. Last week my front end started to vibrate/hum at around 60 to 70 mph. I thought that the 4 x 4 axle actuator was engaging the front axles causing the vibration. I pulled it and it wasn't engaged. I noticed gear oil had came out of the vent hose on front differential. Feels like the vibration is effecting power as well, like its ... Read More

While you are at it, check your brake lines, especially on the frame mount near the front drivers wheel. These are known to fail there and the problem is being investigated by NHTSA. Repair the lines and minimize the risk of a bad accident as they are known to fail during a hard stop. I am speaking from experience on my 2003, and others have reported the same failure mode. I have a 2004 Silverado 1500 Z71 that was bought new in 2003. On 4/17/08 I applied the brakes while going aprox 25 mph. The pedal went to the floor and a Red warning light came on. Well mine is over 100000 miles and the speedometer went to 120 for a day and then the next day it apprears to be ok. I haven't checked the mileage yet with my garmin to make sure that it is correct now.

I would add that the problem is not only with GM but most other cars that have electronic dashes. The fix is to have your gauge cluster rebuilt. I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado. Both trucks have the same Z-71 package and the only difference is that the gmc had firestone tires and the chevy has bridgestones.
