Back in October 2001, my dad bought a Olympic White Extended Cab 5.3 LS 2001 Silverado and we have had it ever since. I received this car as my first car in the Summer of 2013 (I got it when I was 16, now I am 18) and it has been since the day it came off the lot. Overall, it has been very reliable, it has had a transmission replaced under warranty, around 115k mi, the oil pan began to leak and the water pump was replaced, 140k mi the fuel pump was replaced and thats really all that has been major with it. Just basic oil changes every 5-7.5k miles and fluid changes and it is still running like a charm. Its fast, comfortable, easy to maneuver and it still looks good 14 years later!
- 5.3L V8 power/noise
- Comfortable interior
- Truck capabilities
- Handles better than you think
- Reliable as a wood burning stove
- Cheap to upkeep
- Built fairly well
I love my '01 chevy silverado 1500, its getting up there in miles has 233950 still runs better than any ford i have owned. only problem is that the oil pan and rear main seal leak i dont have extra money to fix but we havent had any major problems. we replaced the starter wen out once at 205xxx miles but that wasnt a big deal. no tranny problems what so ever. it is a tough truck pretty comfortable. back seat is cramped, other than that its a good truck. the bed is a good size and doesnt fall apart like a ford would. i trust this truck and would drive it across the country without a worry in my mind. very relaible pretty powerfull. 4x4 works better than any ford 4x4 i have drivven.
i love that the back seat folds up and you can store under neath the seat. the bed is big enough where i have figured out how to fit 2 crf250's back there and get the tail gate to close. has never let me down period!!
Its a chevy for cryin out loud
the radio control cluster falls apart easy. the speakers on the front doors fall out. poor fuel mileage struggles to pull my 18 foot carson racer. personaly i think the 5.3 is lame it works great but i still like the 350 5.7 better. easier to work on less emission crap. back seat could be bigger. stronger interior plastics. colder ac. but i cant give it too much crap it has been in the family for 13 years bought in late 2000.
i have had this truck for around 1.5 years put on about 25,000 miles and it just is cheaply made the wobble in the front end large turning radius for a short truck the cd player was crap the latch broke on the tailgate, center console, have had the parking brake fixed by gm 6 times ive never driven with it on ac is weak check engine light comes on randomly fuel pumps @ 149xxx, speakers are blown and falling out of their holes, burns oil but dosent leak it, super light in the back end my boat drug it down a dry launch ramp with parking brake on boat (6400) lbs and very narrow interior im about 6'1" and 265 and the seats are narrow and uncomfortable any long drives require frequent rest stops.
starts right up...
make sure to do your homework and checkout all options i have an 03 dodge with a 5.7 extended cab 4x4 and it is head and shoulders better in every way my first dodge use to like fords
Purchased new and still own. I LOVE this truck, best ever! I dont plan on getting another GM product till they change to another body style that i like.
Interior is comfortable and still looks new. Exterior still shines. Heated power seats are great in the winter along with heated side mirrors
Better tires would be nice. Generals wore out @ 52k! Had to put new rear brakes @ 60k and Water pump @ 54k. Just a few recalls so far and no problem getting them fixed. Only wish they had a heater/ac like a FORD (Slow to heat in winter/cool in summer)
Great Truck. I drive a good number of miles a year and I’m very pleased with this truck. I believe that the 2WD has a much smoother ride that the Z71 (4WD), and since I have little use of the 4WD, that was an easy choice. The 5.3 L V8 has more than enough power to jump up and pass a truck on a two lane road. The heated, leather, power everything seats also are nice. I put a K&N air filter in it the first week I bought it and run Castrol Syntec 20W-50 year round. I have had no problems.
5.3 L V8, the smooth ride and the heated leather seats
My only problem is that the seatbelt seems to rub the lower left side of the truck when I get it. It's almost rubbed a hole in the leather.
