Good luck?
Vehicle
2001 Chevrolet S-10 2dr Extended Cab 2WD SB (2.2L 4cyl 5M)
Review
I had wanted an S-10 6 years prior to finally buying one. I couldn't drive stick at the time, but bought the 5 speed anyway & now can't imagine driving automatic! I've said this 1000 times, I love my truck. I get about 22 mpg on hghwy/ 20 city so it's not bad but could be much better. Biggest complaint is I've had to replace the 3rd door handle four times. Otherwise, it's very comfortable, handles well & has more peep to it than most 4 cylniders. I like the extra room the extended cab offers & the jumper seat has proved useful. The bed is short, especially with the box but still enough room to move my friends! Never had a break down or any major problems. 6 years later, I still love my truck
Favorite Features
Fun to drive, in door cup holders, jumper seat, comfortable seats, sliding window in back, third door
Suggested Improvements
Did I mention I had to replace the 3rd door handle four times? Consider making it stronger, this is very frustrating to say the least.

A Truck Built With Problems
Vehicle
2001 Chevrolet S-10 2dr Extended Cab 2WD SB (2.2L 4cyl 5M)
Review
I've owned this truck for a little over six years now and I have been very disappointed with the quality of construction on this vehicle. There have been constant brake issues, the ABS system went out prematurely, the third door latch broke, the front bearings wore ouot, the idler arm went bad- all in under seventy thousand miles. Not what I would call a well built vehicle and it makes me sure that I will never buy a GM product again.
Favorite Features
Exterior design, interior seats are comfortable.
Suggested Improvements
Better quality construction. Work on the brakes to make them last longer, use better parts on the door latches, put a little more effort into the overall mechanical features of the truck.

Nice Expensive Truck
Vehicle
2001 Chevrolet S-10 2dr Extended Cab LS 2WD SB (2.2L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This is a nice truck. I like the bed size. I seem to have a three door, extended cab, long bed truck with a 4.3L 6 cylinder engine. I am told that this was never manufactured. The gas milage is not great. I average about 20 miles highway, but only about 17 city. In the winter I put sand bags over the wheels (rear wheel drive) and that hurts the milage even more. Have had a lot of repairs. Two air pumps, air pump check valves (only once though), starter (I think it's going again), front shocks, alternator, handle to third door three times (broken right now), and battery. I've had to truck 2 1/2 years, bought it 12/2005 with 6,000 miles, it has 36,000 on it now. It's had a full brake job too.
Favorite Features
Cup holders (very nice), automatic head lights, pick up of the 6 cylinder engine, the third door (when it's working)
Suggested Improvements
Gas mileage. Reliability. Make the handle on the third door metal so it stops breaking.

Past Chevy Lover But No More
Vehicle
2001 Chevrolet S-10 2dr Extended Cab LS 2WD SB (2.2L 4cyl 5M)
Review
First let me state of letting everyone know my heart and soul is Chevrolet but I will never buy any more Chevys. I have had a lot probles with the truck brakes, rear end, and now the one that takes the cake is the drive line a double cardan joint that no drive line shop will give you any kind of repair warranty it and the reason there giving is it's an engineering problem. But in short I was going to buy a Camaro when it came out but I keep my money in my pocket
Favorite Features
The way it holds the road
Suggested Improvements
Make cars right. I was happy with all the past Chevrolet car I have. GM don't cut corners.

The ride quality is not very good ,needs more power for such a heavy truck with an automatic 4 banger (120hp isn't enough).even with a 4 cyl. it still gets horrible gas mileage. (15mpg)I like the styling though, wish i had a 4.3 with the zq8 suspension. the ball joints go bad and my door hinge pins need replaced and at 96k miles it already has seal leaks all over the engine. I like the style of truck. A good truck for the money i guess.
Favorite Features
xtreme or 4.3 option w/5spd. and zQ8. styling is nice too. also like the third door
Suggested Improvements
better gas mileage and more power

Review
Personally, I have not had any issues with the truck other than the original battery leaking out acid from the positive terminal after 6 years of use. I never drive off road, and do not push it into 4WD situations, since I know this little 2WD would get stuck. I still have two of the 4 original tires with some tread left. I have taken it easy on the transmission and only rarely haul something heavy in the bed. Maybe I'm one of the few lucky ones, but by not abusing this truck and keeping it maintained it has given me no problems and has been amazingly reliable.
Favorite Features
Gas mileage. Comfy bench seats. Quiet ride. Reliable, if you don't need it to be a large 4WD truck.
Suggested Improvements
None really. It has no power at all, but honestly, it has probably kept me out of speeding tickets and accidents since it has forced me to not be one of those people who zip in and out of traffic because their car is peppy. Would be nice if there was some room behing the seat.
Wish they built more

I bought this truck about 8 months ago and I have hauled rocks, dirt, gravel, all of my stuff from a move, 2 boats, and all the while in the worst snow, ice, and whatever God could throw at you, and it performed like a beauty with 22 mpg at 132,000 miles. Paid $7k for the truck and I have used the 4x4 push button more times than you could shake a stick at. it has a litte cubby behind the rear seat for whatever tools you may need, a sliding rear window, can tow 5200lbs out of an awesome 4.3 6cyl.compared to the Dakota's 3400lbs max for their v6 (wimpy). Do not buy if you need a finesse city truck. I have had no issues yet with the truck. But at 132K what can I say? The thing is "like a rock".
Favorite Features
This truck is a meaty truck. I thought that I would have more issues with such a small bed, but I have yet to encounter a time when I needed more bed space. Love push button, all power options, oversized bucket seats, towing power, and pulling power.
Suggested Improvements
I would recomend using synthetic oil after 100k. Helps curb burnt oil, particularly if one wants to tow regularly. Keep tires inflated, will help mileage. K&N air filter is also great for towing

Great Truck Served Its Purpose
Vehicle
2001 Chevrolet S-10 4dr Crew Cab LS 4WD SB (4.3L 6cyl 4A)
Review
Reading some of the negative reviews posted here motivated me to write this review. First off, this is a great small truck for the money. I purchased mine used with 90 some thousand miles and it is still running strong. I get almost 22 MPG strictly highway and average about 18 MPG combined. If your truck has no power and poor fuel mileage, duh, take it into a garage and have it looked at. Something is obviously wrong. Then there's the clowns who expect to have a Cadillac quality truck and pay a Chevy price. And don't get me started on the dolts who probably bought theirs used and did not take time or spend a little money to make sure the truck was previously maintained.
Favorite Features
Pushbutton 4X4, power to MPG ratio, 4 wheel disc ABS, great handling in all weather conditions, four full size doors.
Suggested Improvements
Spray-on bedliners should be a factory standard on all pickup trucks. Using more readily available 75R tires instead of the 70R tires.

Not at all impressed
Vehicle
2001 Chevrolet S-10 2dr Extended Cab LS 2WD SB (2.2L 4cyl 5M)
Review
The truck has been decent with the usual, ALL 5 u-joints needing replacing at $200 a pop, as well as the hanger bearing, front driver wheel bearing, and most recently the entire rear differential. This one proved too much for me to hang on to this vehicle. Every year I needed to replace the Cap and Rotor, not to mention the squeaks and creaks from the shoddy craftman ship of the interior plastic. Will not buy again.
Favorite Features
The seats were the most comfortable seats I've ever been in, working at a car rental company, I've tried them all.
Suggested Improvements
The drive line from the transmission back needs to be more dependable.

Review
As with other owners of this year S10, I've replaced all the universals, three ball joints, driver side front wheel bearing, all during the eighty thousand mile timeperiod. My ABS brake system failed and will cost over five hundred dollars in parts to fix. I just avoided two major slow speed accidents when the ABS refused to allow me to stop. And, there's been lots of little things that I didn't expect to have to replace and/or repair on a truck this new. Plastic door latches, fuel sender unit and pump, complete replacment of all rear brake parts, etc. My service engine light continues to come on, even though it has been serviced several times. Quality is not job one at GM anymore
Favorite Features
The looks and ride of the S10 are all plus features. I like the ride, looks, and fit and finish of the truck. It has very attractive lines.
Suggested Improvements
Quality! I've been a GM owner all my life, I'm 54, and I will not buy another until they prove they want to build machines with true quality!
