For some reason the Splashes haven't held their value initially. Maybe the Edge model will do better. But it is a stylish truck no doubt about it. I seem to remember the 5-speed automatic coming around maybe in 1999 or 2000, don't think the 98's had them. I have a 2000 Chevy s-10 ZR2. I've noticed recently that while driving with the air selector turned to "Off" and all the way to "Cold" heat pours into the cabin onto my feet. It has to be the most miserable problem to drive any distance with that I can think of. First, sorry to hear so many of you are having trouble with your S10s. This is my second one, and both have been great, trouble-free trucks. I had a Ford Ranger in between. I just had the 4.3 engine replaced in my 1996 s-10 4x4 and there was a change in the crankshaft. The new engine I have is basically a year 2000 model with roller rockers and all the new mods. The new engine even required a different flex plate in order to bolt up the tranny. This was a dealer install and it was extremely expensive ($4500). Try Jasper engine rebuilders ... Read More...

Like I said in my previous post, I picked up a Space Blue 2000 S-10 LS, with sliding rear window, chrome bumpers, body side mouldings, CD, Air, 4 cly, 5 speed, mats, etc. for $10,000. It was used, but had only 1300 miles on it. The private party even paid the registration and half the taxes on it also. Looking in the paper the same car closed out in the low 12s to high 11s. ... Just picked up a 2000 LS with 1300 miles on it for $10,000 (bought it from a guy that won it in a contest) and what a dream. It has everything I would want in a small pickup. Right now 25 mph with the 4 cyl, 5sp. Sliding rear window, cd, bedliner, carpets, etc. It drives like a truck, but is very comfortable. I also have a 2.2 in my 2000 S-10. I just returned from a trip up to Tahoe, fully loaded with gear. Except for the fact that I had to shift down in the hills it performed flawless. No vibration at all at 70+ mph. I will sacrifice a little lack of power for 29 mph. The Vortec engine is totally different from all the other previously built 4 cyl. As for me, I had a 96 S-10 rear-ended 3 times, and the only service it required with 86,000 miles, were half a can of 134a freon. New pads front and back and I had the drums and rotors turned.
