2003 Chevrolet S-10 2dr Regular Cab LS Rwd SB (2.2L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Have enjoyed this truck since purchasing. Ride is good for a truck, handles well, good gas mileage. Performs adequately on flat or rolling hills unless you are on an interstate. Do not get the 2.2L 4 cyl engine if you live in the mountains or hilly country. Also bad glare from instrument panel at night on back window. Would buy this truck again but with an engine upgrade. Never had one problem after leaving the dealership.

Best Features

Radio that scans, dusk/dawn headlamps, interior lighting, extra electrical plugs, instrument panel easy to reach, and quick response from engine under 45 mph.

Worst Features

I would like to see more power from the engine at highways speeds. Just about got myself killed trying to pass someone at 65 mph on a flat highway. Also a few more inches of leg room when entering truck.

Review

Poor excuse for a pickup
bed, but the only thing you can't haul
is a 2X4 (if you open the
slider you can get a 12'in
if you hang on to it :).
Great mid life kids/yardwork/misc
projects vehicle. Gas mileage sucks,
but no worse than anything else in
this league. The residual power, auto
headlights, and power everything are
awesome. Chevy did a great job
improving the brakes for 2002. This
is a fair/cold weather vehicle, like
all S-10's over the past few years,
the heater seems to always be on. The
A/C works VERY well, but it seems odd
that you cannot force cool air out of
the system when it is 40deg outside
without turning on the A/C.

Best Features

Lots of power, 2 kid seats in the back and still bring the wife and 1000lbs of pellet fuel, christmas tree, or coolers and tents for the camping trip. Towing is very good for a 4000lb trailer.

Worst Features

This is my 7th S-10 (can you say "Rutt". I have had issues with all of the transmissions and wiper motors - All of them! Now they have dis-continued the S-10 line after NO PROBLEMS with anything on this truck. If you want an S-10, pay the extra for a late model. Tony

Review

Purchased 10 months ago, we have 15k
miles on the truck with no issues.
With the 4 cyl and 5 speed transmission
plus a tonneau cover (highly recommend)
this truck gets 28-30 mpg with A/C
running, loaded bed and running 75-80
mph. I just changed from Valvoline to
Mobile 1 0w30 and fuel economy went
from 28 to 30 mpg. Note- to get
performance from this engine shift at 4-
4500 rpms. Peak HP is at 5200 rpm. You
have to drive it like a Honda not a V8
Chevy to get it to run. I did a lot of
research, and talked to the mgr. of an
Advance Auto Parts, they use the same
truck with auto trans as parts runners.
They run 100-150K abusive miles with no
problems.

Best Features

Styling, fuel economy, seats, cold A/C, tight steering, short throw shifter, cup holders, auto lights, ABS. Great value for the price.

Worst Features

Electric fan for cooling would free up additional hp, a little more leg room, We should have bought extended cab. Plastic used on dash/doors could be better. New Colorado seems to have addressed these issues.

Review

Great overall truck for the "budget"
minded. Pulls my 18 foot boat like a
dream. Would like to see a tail gate
open light installed on future models.
I droped my payload on the road not
knowing my son opened up the tailgate.

Best Features

Push button 4x4 on the fly.

Worst Features

Would like to see a tail gate open light installed on future models. I droped my payload on the road not knowing my son opened up the tailgate. Wind noise is a bit more than I prefer.
