I had a 2001 S10 with a 4.3, at 8 months, 7,000 miles I was fed up with it and lack of chevrolet service. Mine was starting to get that "sweet smell" in the interior with no visiable loss of coolent. The smell is antifreeze burning. Rather than to go through the hassel of trying to get chevrolet to do something about it I relied on my 15+ years of experience ... Read More

  • Mileage report

Written by: yellowdr on Mar 7, 2002 8:57:20 PM

After 4200 miles on my 2001 4x4 crew cab I can report an average of 16mpg in town and 20-21 on the highway. The highway trips include 50 miles per tank in town or around town as well so I expect the "all road" mileage to be slightly better. Time will tell. Chevy NEEDS to fix the gas gauge. It has been a constant problem in chevs since my "69" malibu... ... Read More

I really have enjoyed this 2001 crew cab s10 dispite the "beating" that it gets from the Edmund reviewers....comparing a v8, and vehicles that cost $3000 more...I guess the S10 does seem kinda pale by comparison...however... Chevy should fix the stupid gas gauge. After 1/2 tank it often drops to below empty!! Usually with 4 gallons remaining. I'm glad that I discovered this before my road trips so I avoided unnecessary ... Read More

I have exactly the same problem. My truck has been in the shop nearly 10 times. I have a 2001 Chevy S10 Crew Cab. They've replaced the sending unit, the computer brain, gauge cluster, and examined the entire wiring harness for shorts. I've been without the truck for approximately 3-4 weeks. My dealer has been very good about this and appears to have done everything he can. I've talked to GM ... Read More

Have a 2001 Chevy Xtreme S-10 Ext Cab pickup that develops a vibration that you feel in the seat. The truck has only 700 miles on the odometer, a 4.3 L V6, automatic transmission and the Xtreme sport package. The vibration usually begins to occur at approx 50 mph and will continue to occur at all speeds between 50 and approx 64 mph. At 65 mph the vibration will diminish tremendously ... Read More

S10 long bed with 4.3, 160 hp engine and 4:11 gears and auto, no AC. It had 70,000 mi. scratch and ding free body, dark blue metallic paint. We tuned it up, went through entire vehicle, changed all fluids, filters, lubed entire chassis and buffed out the paint. Of course he proceeded to lower the truck and add a few upgrades. This truck was very quick due to the axel ratio. ... Read More

2.2 liter, 5 speed. I continue to love this truck. 23 combined mpg, really comfortable with the lumbar adjustment, AC that gets you cold even on 95 plus days, great stereo and CD. Built well, no squeaks or rattles (yet). Like the TV Ad says about the Chevy S-10 "Like a Rock" and just as fast. The only complaint I have is the shift advisory light that comes on when it ... For some reason the Splashes haven't held their value initially. Maybe the Edge model will do better. But it is a stylish truck no doubt about it. I seem to remember the 5-speed automatic coming around maybe in 1999 or 2000, don't think the 98's had them. I agree that a ranger or S-10 can get "lost" among the behemoths, but parking one is definitely a lot easier. My LB F-150 ... Read More

I've just purchased a 2001 GMC Sonoma SLS. Got all the goodies I wanted, 5 speed (real trucks have to be shifted) AC, AM/FM/CD, bucket seats etc. Rebates were the deciding factor, $3000 off sticker plus what the dealer chipped in. Really happy. I hope Edmunds is wrong in their "spotty build quality" statement in the review. The also panned the Toyota ECHO. I love that little car. I'll be reading ... Read More
