1996 Chevrolet S-10 Extended Cab LS 2dr Extended Cab 4WD Stepside SB
Original owner of black ZR2. Great sightlines from driver's seat, great looks. Had the ABS chip fail in first week of ownership and three front hubs replaced before 42K due to combination of failed parts and mechanic error. Due to oversized tires 31x10.5 being mounted on standard 4wd wheel steering and suspension assemblies (except for Bilstein shocks), this truck eats brakes and lower ball joints. Never got more than 19.8 MPG and now avg about 16MPG with hard driving. I am meticulous with scheduled maint including flushing trans. Major costs included replacing encoder motor at 130K, and fuel pump, water pump, and alternator near 150K. Original engine and tranny and still running very well.
Seating height (due to raised stance) and seating position (relative to floorpan). 4.3L V6. Power steering boost is perfect. HVAC and radio controls are within easy reach of driver. Huge exterior mirrors. Good stereo and speakers for stock.
Beef up suspension, steering and brake components on ZR2 package. Replace all terrains with long trails for less noise, better fuel. Redesign power mirror adjuster. Use darker standard tint on cab windows. Put quick release seat on driver's side, too. Make 3rd door std. Switch speedo & tach position

The 40/60 front seat & quick release
passenger seat is great for puting
articals or people in the back. The
double sun visor is also great on those
bright days. The engine has plenty of
pulling ability for me. I hauled 15
fifty lb sacks and 3 people with ease.
Make the a-frame attaching bolts easier
to remove and change the clutch fan
attching from the big nut to the water
pump hub. I would also like a selection
of differential gearing to 3:08 or 2:00
something for better fuel milage or
maybe a better overdrive.
