  • instrument panel question-2000 prizm

    Written by: jill22 on Jul 6, 2010 4:11:31 PM

I have a 2000 chevy prizm and first the right half of the instrument panel backlight went out then a week later, the left side went out, also. The gauges themselves work fine. I replaced the gauges fuse inside the car and now the left side is lit up, but the right side is still out. The car manual doesn't offer any help, is there a different fuse for the right ... It is not a Chevy engine. Why take it to Chevy dealer? Take it to anyone who knows Toyotas well. It might be a clogged fuel filter. Incorrect idle speed, or damp/damaged distributor components, faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs, faulty spark plug wires, faulty emissions system components, vacuum leak in the fuel injection system, intake manifold or vacuum hoses. I do not think it is because of the ECM/computer. My ... Read More

There are 3 speed a/t, and 3 speed+O/D a/t for this car.And both transmissions (A131L and A245E) use a lock-up torque converter. I would suggest you get a 2000 or newer Prizm with 1.8 lt engine and 4 speed auto or manual transmission. Because these have VVT-i engines which save gas. However older Prizms/Corollas are more reliable than newer ones. If I were you I would find a nice 1995-1996-1997 model ... Read More

  • Prizm Replacement Key. Should they me symmetric?

    Written by: dg2c2c on Feb 28, 2008 4:12:17 PM

This is dumb question. I have a 2000 Chevy Prozm. I lost my key and had to have it re-cut at the dealer. After bringing it back to my car, I found it did not work. Loking at the key closer, I noticed that the Key was not symmetrical, the cuts on each side of the key did not quite match near the tip. My questions is are there keys suppose ... Read More

I had this *exact* same sounding problem on my 2000 Prizm -- it also cost me some serious cash before figuring out what the problem was. Check the Mass Airflow Sensor -- mine was running a little lazy and chaotic. I ultimately had to take to the Toyota dealer before they figured out what was wrong. Apparently it was a fairly common problem on the Prizm/Corolla models of that time, but ... Read More

I have a 2000 Chevy Prizm with about 110,000 miles on it. The check engine light came on a few months ago and our mechanic said it was the Catalytic Converter. I waited several months, and then had it replaced, but the check engine light came on again, and the mechanic said that an O2 sensor needed replacing, so he did that as well. Well, 45 miles later, the check engine ... Read More

I own a 2000 Prizm. The fuel filter is in the gas tank. Quite an expensive fix. I was quoted $250 - $300 through a Chevy dealership. My local mechanic stated that he has never replaced a fuel filter in a Prizm or Corrolla. I had a hesitation in my vehicle and thought it was a fuel filter. I changed the air filter and bought some Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner. ... Read More

Local chevy dealer has used 2000 prizms. My question is since these cars are basically toyotas, do these cars have any issues with the sludge problem I heard about? Maybe these engines dont have these problems? I dont think the dealer would give me a straight answer so I figured you guys would.

A strange thing happened to me the other day... I was sitting in my car eating lunch @ a fast-food restaurant... a lady parked right next to me who had a car just like mine... ( 1998-2000 Chevy prizm ). I kept looking at her car... I was very surprised to see she had some of the same wear and tear as I did... some examples I noted; my inside drivers ... Read More

I bought a 2000 Chevrolet Prizm with a lot of apprehension. This was my first brand new car purchase. I wanted to make sure that it would be the right one. I already owned a 1994 Dodge Caravan SE and needed a car with good gas mileage to get to and from work. I looked at the Saturn S wagon, Ford Focus Wagon and Ford Escort, Dodge Neon, and Chevy Cavalier, ... Read More

Hello! I have been reading all the posts, and this sounds like such a great little car! No wonder I'm buying one on April 2nd..... :-) Anyway, please bear with my stupidity, but when you get ANYTHING done on these brand new cars--you take it back to the Chevy Dealeership, right? I'm only asking because of post #380 about the coolant. I hate to feel like a retard, but I have ... Read More

juniek1, I am not sure about the 2000 model, but in my '98 they did use timing chain. As for the maintance requried for the chain, when I asked chevy dealer, they were not able to give me a good answer. They said that according to the experience on the "old V6 Buicks" (I'm quoting them) the chain might needs to be replaced at 120K mi. It seems to me that ... Read More

I bought a new '00 Prizm about 4 months ago. It just sat around for a while though while I knocked out the last few miles on my 1984 Chevy Cavalier (it had 140,000). I sold my Cavalier then for $400 and started driving my new Prizm for work a few months ago. I drive a route for my company and I put on about 4-5000 miles a month. My Prizm ... Read More

  • 2001 Prizm Fuel Economy improvements?

    Written by: meshuga139 on Aug 13, 2000 2:03:03 PM

Hi all... I just checked out the new 2001 Prizm website and noticed that the fuel economy for the new 2001 Prizm seems to have been bumped up from 38mpg to 41mpg (with 5-speed). There's no mention about what has been done to the engine to gain this improvement. The car still has the 1.8L VVTi engine rated at 125hp. It would be nice if the changes/adjustments could be retrofitted to ... Read More

My 2000 Prizm (bought new, April 2000) also has a squeak. My squeak appears to be coming from the left-hand side of the dashboard. I am fairly confident that my squeak is not coming from the suspension. I also have a rattle coming from my turn signal stalk. Of course, 2 Chevrolet dealers I have tried won't even look at it without charging me. I have a 3-speed automatic, and get ... Read More

I have a 1990 Geo Prizm (manual) with almost 210,000 miles, which I love. I have never owned a car as reliable and problem-free as this one, with the lagniappe of being fun to drive. It has no problems and still gets 30+ MPG, but I am beginning to be concerned about its age and mileage. So I am considering getting a 1999 or 2000 model. However, did the change to ... Read More

My 99 Prizm has been whining ever since I bought it. I took it to all the Chevy dealers around, they claim that it's normal or that it's the air rushing in and there's nothing they can do about it. I have a friend who is a mechanic for BMW and he told me that dealerships get very little money for fixing cars under warranty so that they couldn't care less ... Read More
