2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Road Test Ratings

This large domestic coupe has little to recommend itself, but the powerful SS version offers some redemption to the Monte Carlo model line.

The base models have weak steering and brakes, but the V8-powered SS has a strong powerplant. Cornering is not this car's strong suit.

The seats are about average, and the ride is on the too-soft side.

No PRNDL marking on the shift lever, and a finicky audio system need improvement. Otherwise, the control layout is OK, if dated. A large trunk with 60/40 folding rear seats create a decent amount of cargo space.

The interior design looks dated and heavily reliant on the parts-bin. The recent exterior facelift merely papered-over the need for a full redesign.
