Gotta love it! Great looks, great ride. Black w/dark tint looks like an intimidator on the road. Get looks from everyone who likes cars and from many who normally wouldn't notice. Have been a mechanic for 20 yrs. and from a repair standpoint this car is exceptionaly built, keeping it simple and yet having all the amenities of a far more costly car. When it does have to be worked on it is roomy and straightforward for the repair tech, which will make him/her smile while performing the repairs needed. Will be purchasing another SS to hotrod and park beside our '81 Monte Carlo. Nothing else has enough class to wear a bowtie other than a Chevy!

Favorite Features

Smokin hot body style. Reliable and bullet proof old school 3.8 litre.

Suggested Improvements

Don't mess with perfection!

I purchased this vechile in Oct '05 and I am loving it. It was a one owner vehicle and had 150,000 miles on it. It has 165,000 now and looks and runs like new. No rattles, doesn't burn any oil, drives like a new one. I would recomend this car to anyone. I contacted the original owner and he said he had no problems in the time he owned it other than a traction control malfunction that was fixed by the dealership under waranty. I drive it everyday and would reccomend this car to everyone.

Favorite Features

I like the sunroof, OnStar, dual climate control, 200 watt cd system, and the way it looks and handles. No rattles, no rust and looks new.

Suggested Improvements

cCould use a few more horses.

I fell in love with this car and bought it when I was 7 mo pregnant. The rear seats have plenty of space and are comfy. I have tinted windows and have replaced the stock radio which greatly improved sound quality w/o getting new speakers/amp. Ibought my SS in 09/01 and about to hit 60,000 mi. and have this popping sound that's felt in the steering wheel when turning. It is bothersome and annoying. Have yet to look into the source. Rear window was replaced due to defrost not working and there's leaking in trunk ever since. Dew is in trunk and rear taillights and items in trunk are damp but there's no leak though they insist. Auto windows are slowing down now. But I still love my SS.

Favorite Features

Sunroof and amplifier for sure. Roominess for a coupe for back seats and trunk. Heated seats, automatic lock. Spoiler. The design.Get lots of compliments especially after the tints and one summer with customized rims really turned heads.

Suggested Improvements

The tire pressure light is an ongoing issue. Had turn signal issue like some others have mentioned. Seems like there are issues with rear defrost. A solution to the popping noises that are felt/heard when turning that seem to be getting more frequent now. Have some chipping with paint to front end.

Cloth buckets seats. The NASCAR type rear spoiler. The 3.8L engine. The instrument panel, and warning system in the ceiling. Gear shift handle. The rear seat room for passengers.

Suggested Improvements

Adjustable height for the shoulder strap.

Battery was bad at 10,000 miles. Head gasket blown at 45,000 miles (constant low coolant light on = expensive repair). Fuel injectors bad at 25,000 miles (cleaned). Engine mounts replaced at 60,000 miles (very expensive). AC controls bad at 40,000 miles. Electronic module computer bad at 60,000 miles (replaced = very expensive) Mechanic at the dealer's said he has seen these problems repeated over and over with this model. Who pays for it? Who did you think? GM? Naahh... I had mechanical breakdown insurance, but had to pay $250.00 for each incident. What I saved with 0% finance, I have spent in repairs that one would never believe to occur in such a new car. No more GM! Enough!

This car requires constant maintenance. If you're not a mechanic, I'd get something else. The head gasket went at 85000 miles and cost just under a grand to fix. Tie rods, hazard switch, locks, etc, etc, etc. It can't go but three weeks before something else falls apart.

Review

I bought my 2001 MC SS used w/ a little over 60k miles on it. The only disappointments I have found would be the absence of the V8 and manual shifter. Car styling is excellent, much better than the mid-90's models. This car has impressive pwr coming from the V6 when needed. Steering is a bit stiff in tight corners, but really drives great at speeds exceeding 80mph. The only thing that I have noticed that is out of sort is a slight popping coming from the front wheels when pulling off of an incline. I have had this checked out and it seems to be just a qwirk with the traction control feature. Nothing worth breaking a sweat over.

Favorite Features

Roomy and comfortable interior. Ride quality and handling. Exterior styling and lines. Black paint is a fan favorite.

Suggested Improvements

Put more horses under the hood. Lack of manual shifter and sheer horsepower. Slight popping/gringing feel in the steering caused from traction control feature.

Review

When I first bought the car I loved it. Drove/handled well, smooth ride, etc. Even liked the power (although I now feel like it is a little on the weak side). That has quickly gone downhill since. This past year alone I have invested $2500-$3000 in repairs. Since purchase with 29,000 miles I have had to rebuild the trans (at 54K), replace a high pressure line for the a/c, replace struts and bearing plates, replace temp. sending unit, resolder rear defrost, rebuild brakes all around (including calipers), replace tie rod ends, thermostat, theres a short in the headlights causing my daytime lihts not to function properly and my highbeam indicator to continuously flicker.

Favorite Features

I like the usual, pw, pl, keyless entry. Moonroof is nice in the summer. Digital thermostat and compass is nice to have. Homelink system is a plus.

Suggested Improvements

Better build quality. It is a joke that I have had to put as much money for repairs in the car as I have had, at the mileage it is at. My suggestion - do not buy.

I bought this car in 11-00, brand new. I have been so pleased with it that I am now trading it for a new 2006 model. I need the new warranty features, if something were to go wrong. I have never had any serious trouble with it at all.

Favorite Features

The remote key, looks, low tire pressure monitor, heat & air still work after 5 years.

Suggested Improvements

Power windows need improvement on reliability.
