Well, of course Monte Carlo sales are falling. You can't expect a stale design to continue selling. I would've likely traded my '02 for an '06 but I didn't want the "same" car. I ended up with the Impala SS but already miss my Monte Carlos "B" pillar that didn't direct air into my ear while driving with the windows down. I also miss the sportier seats in my old Monte ... • Why end the best?

    Written by: stim001 on Jan 8, 2007 2:08:33 PM

I've recently read that Chevy will again lose the Monte Carlo line! What's up with this? Sales down? Can't sell em? I don't think they're trying hard hard enough! Every other model (well all most every other one) has massive incentives! Thousands off better rebates Etc, Etc, Etc. but every time I've tried to purchase a Monte they are higher priced than most people are willing to pay. I've owned 4 ... Read More

Will ethanol E85 catch on in the US? Will we Live Green and Go Yellow?

  • Re: diesel fuels [snakeweasel]

Written by: gagrice on Jul 2, 2006 8:25:40 AM

Cost per mile is the most important factor. The best mileage car you can buy that is flex fuel is the 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo. On E85 it gets a combined 19 MPG. For comparison the slightly larger midsized 2006 Camry gets combined 28 MPG. So if you are looking for a car based on economy you would not even consider a FFV. If you happen to live in MN or ... MIDWEST BRIEFS E85 incentives pay off Tribune staff, wire reports Published June 9, 2006 GM said Thursday that it got a hefty return for dangling $1,000 in front of consumers in the Chicago-Rockford area and Minnesota to get them to buy its vehicles powered by E85. Sales in those regions surged 222 percent in May, the first month of the offer, as 2,238 Chevrolet and GMC vehicles that use the ethanol/gasoline ... Read More

  • Do we toss out CAFE for E85???

Written by: gagrice on May 20, 2006 6:57:17 AM

Of the FFVs offered in 2006 the best combined mileage comes from the Chevy Monte Carlo. It gets a combined 19 MPG using E85. Will the EPA give GM a break on the CAFE standard that is supposed to be 27.2 MPG? The other cars currently available for E85 the Sebring, Stratus & Taurus get a combined 17 MPG on E85 and the big Fords get 14 MPG combined. I wish ... Read More

    Written by: charts2 on Apr 5, 2006 5:59:57 AM

With a new Camaro in the wings as the NEW two door sport coupe, I believe the low selling Monte Carlos will soon be deleted from the lineup at the end of this run in 2008/9. With tremendous publicity and millions spent on NASCAR and sales still falling like a stone I don't think it would be in Chevys interest to carry on with the Monte. Get one while you can. ... Another FWD? A lot of good points made on other posts. It does come down to preference and where you live. As the New Yorker said, RWD with Blizzaks and a driver who knows how to drive is all it takes. My take on the Monte for the past 10+ years is Chevy has failed horribly by using the name 'Monte Carlo' on the product delivered. The name is associated with ... Read More

The 2006 Monte Carlo just doesn't cut it. I am not being negative to anyone who owns one but it is a dated style and chevy blew it. NASCAR racing is huge. But win on Sunday sell on Monday doesn't work anymore. For the 10s of millions Chevy pumps into Team Monte Carlo it isn't paying back dividends of higher sales. With the newer 4 Door Dodge Charger, and next year ... Read More

  • GM to cease production of third shift Oshawa #1

GMs announcement of plant closings. GM announced that it will be dropping the third shift at its Oshawa plant #1 at end of 2006. Personally I believe that will be the end of the Monte Carlo. The Impala has had great success and the Monte Carlos sales are dropping like a stone. Chevy pumps hundreds of Millions into Team Monte Carlo in NASCAR racing and it isn't paying off. Now that ... You know you are absolutely right. Except for the front the 2006 is still the same old ugly body design as it was before, but now they've put a 1995 Monte Carlo nose on it. Sure wish the Chevy division of GM would hire someone with some creativity that could design a good looking car for a change.

So, then don't buy a RWD as your primary car. Last time I looked, all Chevy cars except the 'vette are FWD... so you have your choice. Now, let the rest of us who favor the better handling characteristics of RWD have at least ONE model in the Chevy lineup! As you know, there are MANY folks that live "up north" who have a RWD performance car in a garage or ... Read More

Thanks! The car really looks nice. About as nice as the Mustang GT. I also took a peek at the 2006 Impala SS. I sure hope the price of the two Chevys is in the same ballpark as the Mustang GT. I also can't wait to see how they do in 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs against the Mustang GT.

I read in the '06 Impala forum that Chevy will be selling a new FWD Monte Carlo SS with a 5300 engine and heavy-duty tranny that will hopefully be able to compete with the '06 Ford Mustang GT.
