A great commuter!
Vehicle
1999 Chevrolet Metro 2 Dr STD Hatchback
Review
An outstanding commuter! Great gas mileage! I travel 40 miles daily to work. Is very reliable. I had obly one problem with it after the first year. The ignition coil and wire shorted out. It was a warranty repair. Other than oil changes and new tires, it had saved me a lot of money in repair costs. I am passing it on to my daughter so she can go to school in it.
Favorite Features
Lots of room for a small car.
Suggested Improvements
I wish it can be put back in the production line with a more "peppy" engine.

It will beat most so called "high mileage hybrids". Have always gotten between 50 & 55 MPG in city traffic. It backs off to 45 MPG on highway at 75 MPH. It is peppy, but is slower as you add more passengers. Had heater switch & thermostat replaced under warranty. Dollar for dollar you can't beat it.

Simple and Reliable
Vehicle
1999 Chevrolet Metro 2 Dr STD Hatchback
Review
A very reliable car and ideal for commuting to work. It drives easily, is simple to park, and gets great gas mileage (45mpg: manual transmission). Carrying two or three adult passengers, the car has weak acceleration power, but with no adult passangers or one, the car's acceleration power is acceptable. No mechanical problems at all.
Favorite Features
Fold-down back seat, good sound system, good visibility
Suggested Improvements
Needs rear-window defroster, passanger door could use an electrical contact for cabin light

Review
For a small car, the ride, handling, paint finish, and interior are liveable. Equipt with a A/C, the car has one whole engine cylinder of four devoted just to turn the compressor. I had to turn off the unit when anticipating a hill on the freeway. Further more, when decending down the same hill required me the press the accelerator down one-forth down just to overcome the high gear ratio that engine brakes. Also the A/C temperature, never got cold. When climbing up the hill without the A/C, the car has more than enough power. The only warranty service done was to replace a leaking A/C compressor shaft seal. Still the A/C preformed the same as above. It averaged only forty MPG.
Favorite Features
Easy to park. No door dings due to narrow width.
Suggested Improvements
If the Metro ever returns to America, I would consider owning one if the automatic transmission, without the Torque Converter Clutch, came with a fifth gear overdrive like the manual Trans does so I can coast down a hill without touching the gas pedal. I don't need the A/C.
