2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LS 4dr Hatchback (3.5L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Nicely designed, sporty, comfortable, very pleasant, and not big at all, but tons of room- and I have no love of cars- they are a necessary expense. Has great standard features I would never get if I had to pay extra. Nice dash, recommend getting power driver seat. Haven't gone through my first tank of gas, so not sure about mileage. Hope it's good in the snow. Got a great deal with the rebate. Was looking at: Vibes. Previously owned: geo prizms (no frills)

Favorite Features

Dash, power seat, head-side air bag, comfort, room-without being a huge car

Suggested Improvements

Make the steering wheel more ergonomic. It is very angular/square and not comfortable to hold onto.

2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LT 4dr Hatchback (3.5L 6cyl 4A)

Review

I just drove over 3000 miles on a trip and averaged 31 mpg. Most of the trip was with the AC ON. Had all the pickup when necessary. A very confortable car to drive. With XM radio, made the trip even better.

Favorite Features

Excellent handling.

Suggested Improvements

Some way to prevent water entering the trunk portion. Seems to run off the sides when opening the hatch too fast.

2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LS 4dr Hatchback (3.5L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Strong features include: Comfortable seats--both front and rear; smooth and well controlled ride; relatively little lean cornering at 65-75 mph on the freeway; smooth automatic transmission; good low and middle range torque; good gas mileage; responsive stearing;

Favorite Features

Handling; seating comfort; low and middle torque; storage capacity; high speed stability during cornering; external atenna for better FM reception

Suggested Improvements

Improve interior build quality to eliminate squeaks from steering column; window molding. Placement of clock could be a bit higher and contrast could be sharpened

Review

I agree that the front headrests are to far forward. Try this, pull them off and turn them backward, worked for me. Getting 21MPG in city 32MPG on long freeway trip. Very confortable and quiet. MPG on trip meter is sometimes right on but usually optimistic, it is annoying that it changes in large incriments(goes from 30.8 to 31.7 in one step). 'Range to empty' actually leaves almost 2 gallons in the tank. Only annoyance is that the rear skylite shades will snap open, especially when the plactic holding the shade gets hot and flexes. Scares my 5 year old.

Favorite Features

Easy to drive, great gas milage, very flexable interior. Lots of features for the price. Remote starter great for cooling off the car after it's been sitting in a parking lot at 105 degrees. Engine compartment very tight, no sign of any fluid leaks in the slightest.

Suggested Improvements

Better clip to secure rear sunscreen. 5 speed auto would be nice, shifts into 4th below 40mph. Transmisson makes some noise at the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Arm rest surfaces and console area by driver right leg are hard, needs better padding to be more confortable.

2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LS 4dr Hatchback (3.5L 6cyl 4A)

Review

I bought the LS with 1SB package. I'm 6'2" have more leg room than in my Venture van. This car is quiet and comfortable. I love the way it handles and performs. I drive narrow winding single lane country roads where the need to pass is important. The Maxx has no problem going from 55 to 80 within the short passing zones. It's made driving back and forth to work fun again. For under $20,000, I believe this car has an excellent price/performance ratio.

Favorite Features

remote start, infinitely adjustable driver's seating position

Suggested Improvements

more road feel in the steering

Review

We have had a couple problems we have had to replace the wiper switch, all the rubber window moldings, and now the temp gauge is stuck on cold and the electric fan runs all the time. We traded in a 2000 volkswagen jetta that was a lemon i hope this is not going to be the same thing.?

Favorite Features

The room is great for our two labs and our friends. Good ride.

Suggested Improvements

Need better quailty control at the Chevy plant.

Review

Traded in Honda 2001 CRV with 19,000 miles, have an Accord but even there the Maxx is so much better. After driving the Maxx, the Honda CRV was like driving a truck. Though I hope the dependability is as good as Hondas.

Favorite Features

All the little goodies and ways you can program them off or on. I have a hearing problem with a hearing aide and the Maxx is so quiet, the aide does't pick up road noise. That is wonderful for me.

Suggested Improvements

Being a woman and not having a place to put your purse. All cars though, did not have that either. Come on guys, don't you think women drive too!

Review

After driving it for a week, the Maxx has proven once again that Chevy is trying to compete with other hatchbacks in the market. The drive is smooth and quiet. The comfort level is good and sound system is nice. Fuel economy is yet to be determined for me.

Favorite Features

Sound system with the optional XM Satelite Radio is a plus. The 16 inch alloy wheels gives the car a sporty look.

Suggested Improvements

There is always room for improvement when it comes down to safety, though I have not heard any negative reports yet.

2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LS 4dr Hatchback (3.5L 6cyl 4A)

Review

The Maxx is an impressive buy. It offers incredible features for a reasonable price, and it even turns heads... (that's free). Not regretting the purchase one bit.

Favorite Features

Comfort is very impressive, as are ergonomics and interior/exterior styling. Fresh, clean, assertive, functionnal.

Suggested Improvements

You can never have too much power, it drives a bit like a big car, and the tilt/telescope steering is awkward. The door locks were also more conveniantly placed in my Alero.
