2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LT 4dr Hatchback (3.5L 6cyl 4A)
Review
Just returned from a 4,000 mile vacation in this car. Gas mileage was better than expected-- especially in the hilly terrain of Pennsylvania and Virginia-- 36 MPG! Plenty of pick-up climbing hills and passing. Still cannot believe all the adjustments on this vehicle. I can customize almost everything to my own liking. Comfortable long drive, with driver's lumbar support and adjustable seats. Love the features on the steering wheel; can maneuver everything with your thumbs without taking eyes off the road.Could fit a lot of cargo and still be able to see through back window.
Favorite Features
Info on the radio panel-- MPG, fuel miles left, trip odometer. Love all the adjustments-- seats, pedals, steering wheel, seat belt height, back seats. The suede part of the leather seats provides real comfort here in Florida. Legs don't stick as they do on plain leather. Excellent gas
Suggested Improvements
Would prefer fuel fill-up on driver's side. Need a fitted handle on hatchback door so hand doesn't slip when door is wet. See no value, use, style or need for rear skylights. The shades keep popping open, and these windows only serve to heat up the car interior. Make them so they open

This car caught my eye the moment I walked into the showroom. Different looking and sleek. Looked spacious enough. After shoppomg around for a few hours I settled on the Maxx LS. What a great choice. Handles nicely.
Favorite Features
Love the wireless headsets for the RES and the dash is well layed-out. Kids thought it was "cool". Cargo area is outstanding with lots of room for sports equipment and luggage.
Suggested Improvements
Need to do something about the lamp dimmer. The knob just doesn't fit the design. Sunshade tabs do not fit correctly and sometimes just snap open the blind. Scares the heck out of everybody.

Very pleased with the car to this point. Drives and rides smoothly around town. Just back from a weekend 600 mile trip and the car performed well at all speeds up to 75. Negatives are the cruise control speed which varies too much. Also, they need to do something with the catch on the rear moon roof visors which will suddenly retract when a window is opened while the car is moving.
Favorite Features
Adjustable rear seating and the exterior appearance.
Suggested Improvements
Offer privacy glass on rear windows. Retrofit positive latches onto rear moon roof visors.

A nice translation of the SAAB "EPISLON" platform into a new USA Hatchback, the Maxx is a well executed "extended sedan" that is a good family hauler or freeway cruiser. It did well in crash tests, handles rough roads with aplomb, accelerates well without guzzling gas, and has better fit and finish than many more expensive cars. Some cheapness in the rear trim, a poor cruise control, seats that are too narrow in back, and other first year misses keep it from knocking off Honda or Toyota just yet. But probably one of the best medium size cars out there.
Favorite Features
Remote start, All seats move fore/aft, powerful heater/AC, compliant ride, Smooth transmission, good low end torque, Good if bassy sound system, clean engine layout, good fit and finish in front, quiet, good crash test ratings.
Suggested Improvements
Chinzy rear trim (shades, hatch), Rear seats rattle against shock towers, Cruise control endlessly cycles on hills, Engine raspy near redline, no variable valve timing, Front seat wiring easilly damaged by feet, rear mirrors restrict vision.

We have had our Maxx for about 3 weeks now, and really enjoy it. Although it's somewhat of a step down from our last car (1998 Buick Century), it is fun to drive. We couldn't believe the amount of cargo we could carry. The only problem we've had is that the latch on the smaller of the 2 back seats broke when the seat was in the down position, but it was an easy fix.
Favorite Features
My favorite features are the 2 sun roofs, the 6 disc changer, the movable pedals and telescoping steering wheel.
Suggested Improvements
Dual control temperature, rear vents, driver's seat memory.

A very fun and fast car. The console makes the front tight but the leg room is great in the front and back.
Favorite Features
Info center and engine.
Suggested Improvements
Make the giant MPH blend in. and move the onstar and xm antenea to some less obvious place.

i had mixed feelings on this car until i drove it for the first time. it drives as well as much more expensive sedans and has a powerful engine for the price. the cargo room is plentiful and rear passengers have as much legroom as the driver. a blast to drive for $20,000.
Favorite Features
powerful 200-hp v-6, electronic steering, sliding/fold flat rear seats
Suggested Improvements
GM could offer a better accessories catalog to personalize the vehicle.
Examine it closely before signing

Dealer never checked the car. Took delivery in the rain (delear made sure of that)drove home, all 4 rotors warped. They wouldnt replace even though brand new. The Area Rep would only cut them. Went back, waited 4 hours. Sun came out, 2 pass. doors didnt get enough paint, you could see sheet metal. Chips in window.
Favorite Features
Cant say, I am not driving the car until GM Cust Service gets back to me.
Suggested Improvements
My dealer didnt use the pre delivery checklist. They put a NY Inspection sticker on without actually checking the car. Be very careful, looks like Chevy quality control is non existent. Dont get stuck like I did.
Love it so far

I started researching vehicles about 6 months ago. I thought I had my heart set on a Pontiac Vibe until I drove it. I was driving a 1990 Toyota Cressida (now my daughter's car) and the Vibe was a step down from that ride, noise, features & comfort wise. Also test drove Honda CRV, Toyota Rav and the new Dodge Magnum. The Malibu Maxx was on my list but didn't think it would be a keeper until I drove it. Went on vacation to Colorado the first week I had it, did great on gas even in the mountains and using the A/C, kids loved the DVD player and made the trip more pleasant, husband has even approved of my purchase.
Favorite Features
XM radio which I didn't think I would care about; DVD player; gas mileage; controls on the steering wheel; and this winter - remote start
Suggested Improvements
When I test drove it it was a wonderful ride. After we filled the tires to where they should be, was a good ride. Had it checked out before trip. They added more air to tires & wasn't as smooth but still good.
