Ok, data time. (I am not going to comment in this post to ceep it clean) So, let's see. Using an autotrading site (link title) I came up with this. Based on the medium selling price, I came with the following difference in Accord's price less Malibu's price (Can dollars): Year Price of Accord less Price of Malibu (Can dollars) 2006 10002$ 2005 8939$ 2004 9859$ 2002 6005$ 2001 4325$ 2000 ... Malexbu: You seemed to argue that the post-2004 Malibu has had few or no issues. In my opinion, your argument is misleading. Since we're now in 2007, most of the post-2004 Malibu's have not passed the 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty yet. When there is an issue, the owner usually can get it fixed for free, and so the owner tends to be quiet about it. Besides, one's ego is also at play ... Read More

I'm still surprised but suspect you are on to something. I must say though that I have a 2001 Impala and it has the feature but the 04's don't. The Aveo, Chevy's cheapest model and a new one at that does. Still can't believe a car targeted to families would have the feature. Cut your losses. Any time you have to spend hundreds or thousands to fix a car that is only worth a couple of thousand, that is throwing good money after bad. I agree the body style has somethign to do with it but to be honest, people who buy in this segment aren't necessarily looking for cutting edge styling. Replacing one of the CV joint boots -- hmmm, was it ripped? If so it would have slung grease all around the surrounding area. Very noticeable. An all-new Malibu arrives for 2004 on the same front-drive Epsilon platform as the latest 9-3 from GM-owned Saab.
