1998 Chevrolet Malibu Sedan 4dr Sedan

Review

I purchased my car in 2000 w/ 27000 miles on it. I have been in two front- end accidents with this car (one being quite major). After reading the other reviews, I thought to myself that I must have the best 98 Malibu ever built. I have NEVER had anything major wrong with this car. The most I have ever had to spend in the shop at one time is $200, and that was just recently for high mileage maintence. This car has 97K miles on it now. The only reason why I'm selling it is because of the mileage factor. This car has treated me very well, and I drive like a maniac!

Best Features

Stylish interior, dependable, roomy, good gas mileage

Worst Features

I came from an Acura, so the ride could be a little smoother, and the acceleration is a little slow but still decent.

1998 Chevrolet Malibu Sedan LS 4dr Sedan

Review

I like my '98 Malibu LS. It's pretty peppy, handles decently, is comfortable for four adults and has a lot of amenities. I got the car in September of 2003 with 21,000 miles and it now has 26,000. In that time, the car has gone through a starter and a set of brakes. Sometimes the car has trouble starting when hot.

Best Features

Wheel/tire combination, handling, stereo.

Worst Features

Switch to an OHC engine. The OHV V-6 sounds like every bucket of bolts from the '70s.

Review

My wife and I purchased this car 6
years ago with much research and a
visit to the auto show. We've had some
problems here and there, master
cylinder, engine computer system
replacement, alternator. These repairs
were spread out over the six years. We
originally wanted a Camry but it would
have cost $24,000 compared to 18,500 we
paid for the Malibu. Even with the
above mentioned repairs, this car has
been excellent considering it's been
our only car. Both my wife and I drive
this car everyday and it gets driven
quite a bit every day. The gas milage
is still great, and highway performance
is excellent. Had we had a second car
this car would be in mint condition.
Still happy with this car.

Best Features

Roomy, plenty of rear seat room. Nice trunk (I use it to hall my keyboard and amplifier)V6 is powerfull yet fuel efficient. Starts everyday for six years. Heating and air is great. Repairs are relativley cheap. Rock solid.

Worst Features

Better sound system, security system is not easy to understand and operate. Roof leaks in the rear seats(rear widows)

Review

I bought my car used in 2002 with
27,000 miles. I am so glad I opted for
the extended warranty. The first thing
to go were the brakes, of which I was
warned. My A/C switch drives me insane
(have had it replaced once already), my
theft light randomly comes on when I
start my car, my windshield wipers move
at whatever speed they choose, and I
now have a mysterious humming sound
coming from the front right, which
according to other reviews, seems to be
the right front speed sensor/hub. I
have also replaced the fuel pump. I
however, haven't had intake manifold or
alternator problems..YET..What an
insult to take my car in for service
only to be told that it is common...
shame on GM...

Best Features

Despite all my gripes, I can't help but love this car. It is very comfortable and roomy, and I love little features like the driver side cupholder in the dash. No engine or transmission problems, in fact, it is very powerful and smooth.

Worst Features

To GM: If you have a problem - FIX IT and move on. Seems like it would save a lot of $$ for you (and us) in the long run.

Review

Bought my '98 Malibu used in
late '01. Thought it was great at
first. The brakes squeal very loudly
and they don't need to be replaced.
Had the coolant leak but fixed it w/
leak stopper thing. AC button is VERY
annoying. And at 41,000 miles the
engine blew. Very unexpected and a
bad let down. Have a 2000 Malibu
engine, but still having problem w/
cracks in the air plenum. Don't
recommend this car anymore. And I owe
more than it's worth. :P

Best Features

Big trunk.

Worst Features

Better engine, AC button, leather interior.
