I have 130,000 mioles on my car and I've only replaced an altenator and wheel bearings. She lacks power but once she gets up to speed she can hang with the best. She's never left me on the side of the road and I definitely do an exceedingly amount of highway driving. Even now I won't hesitate to take her on a road trip. I would say the only complaints I have is with the brakes. They don't last like I think that they should and they aren't big enough.

A lot of same complaints. Replaced brakes, pads & rotors 4 times in 80K. Wiper arm broke of during use. Manifold gasket leaked coolant into engine. Control arms replaced. Replaced right wheel hub bearings - left ones going bad. Air conditioning switch only worked on 3. ABS light came on for no reason. Sunroof went offtrack twice. Traded for a Honda when the onboard computer failed. Had enough of dumping money into the car! Standard "aging" repairs, no problem. Major repairs over & over - problem. Problems always met with silence by dealer. Will never buy a GM product again.

Money Pit!

Have to keep pouring money into this car although it has only 60,000 miles and is taken to a Chevy dealer for repairs. Tires, battery, alternator, ABS, steering column all worked on or replaced! AC switch doesn't work right and brakes squeak. I can't trade the car in fast in enough for a foreigh car-- the Malibu is stalling now and will be taken in again for repairs! This car is too expensive for me and causes to much stress.

My Malibu is best described as the Mobile Money Pit. I keep having to invest more money into this car. It is a nightmare to own. It is an okay car when it does run properly, which is not often. Save your money and invest in a Honda or Toyota.

Trade it in b4 50,000 miles

We bought our '98 brand new. It seemed great. At 50,000 miles, a gasket leaked oil coolant into the engine and destroyed the entire engine with no warning($5,000.00). Jiffy Lube told us "Everyone knows Malibu gaskets do this after 50,000 miles." Internet sites confirmed the statement. The dealer and Chevy were very concerned and paid to replace the engine. Conscientous car builder or one who knows their product has a defect? ABS light comes on whenever it wants to, AC only works on #3. Not soured on Chevy, though. We have a 2002 Avalanche and love it to death!

Disappointment

When first purchased, the Malibu seemed to be an okay car. After 20,000 miles, the brakes went and had to be replaced. The cassette player never worked properly even after being replaced. Then for a while everything was normal, but now with 77,000 miles on the car, the ABS and brake lights have come on. I am told that the problem is in the "modulator" and will take approximately $1,000 to repair -- time to trade but never for another malibu!

After 45,000 miles, my car has all new parts... New Hazard Light switch...replaced 3x. New Battery...replaced 2x. New Front ABS Brake...Just replaced. New Air conditioner fan switch...replaced 2x. Affinity Tires...Just replaced Squeeky Suspension...Didn't replace yet. Windshield fluid chamber keeps losing fluid. Dealer couldn't find out why. I just learned the pump has a leak...Leaked when purchased. Rear brake light lenses filled with water after most recent snow. I guess that's why the rear brake lights need to be replaced often. Replaced cigarette lighter too. Replaced the plastic molding inside the trunk just under the trunklid.
