My dad bought a 2001 Chevy Lumina. Ever sense he got the car the car seemed like it would shift back and forth out of gear to frequently, and when you are going down the highway. The car seems to buck or jerk. Some days it won’t do it some days it will. My dad has had it to seven different mechanics half of them said it did not throw a ... Read More
My 2001 did something similar. I drove it about 5 miles, shut it off, then went to start it about 5 minutes later. Nothing. Like someone had removed the battery! I got a jump, drove it about 2 miles and it died. Found out it was the positive battery terminal/cable. I don't see how it could be that sporadic, but after the dealership replaced the cable, car has been ok. Hint: ... Read More
New here, but I hope someone has a word of advice... 2001 Lumina, 3100 engine, 35,000 miles, bought used October 2002. (Replaced a 95 Lumina, 3.1, that I loved dearly...60,000 hard miles on it in the three years after I bought it used, no problems whatsoever until engine said "AMF!" at 145,000.) In the last month, started tapping when cold, noticeably (turns heads). Runs silent when warmed up. In shop for ... Read More

For all of you to know, Chevy Lumina is built in Oshawa, Canada. It has always been built there since GM started building Lumina's in 1988. Chevy Lumina, Impala, Monte Carlo, and Buick Century and Regal are all built in Oshawa. That plant has one of the best paint shop in GM. I have never seen a Lumina with peeling paint, although I have seen a lot of S-10's, C/K trucks, ... Read More

Chevy did not stop making Lumina in 2000. They do not sale them for the general public anymore, but still produced for fleets. I think, though, GM dropped the car in 2001. Any case, the replacement, the 2000-2001 Impala, is a great car. Even better, tham Lumina, and not much more expensive, especially in the basic version.

Response to rb3914: I'm in the same boat with you! I own 2 Luminas. My '93 is a 3.4 Eurosport with 85,000 miles, that I drive to work. It's still pretty quick off the line, but doesn't always want to start on very cold days (0 or less). I've had it towed 3 times due to engine flooding. Chevy dealer said it's the reason they replaced it with the 3800 for ... Read More
