Hi, I am new to this forum. I am looking at a 1996 Chevy Lumina, 3.1 V6, 95,000 on the body, with a rebuilt engine of 60,000. Standard features, ABS, AC, driver and passenger airbags,, new battery, new front brakes and rotors, power door locks, manual windows. Yes I also have this problem - I own a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, it has intermittent starting problems, I have had it in the shop several times and it seems to be the passive security system that is failing. The ignition key has a bit in it that has a resistance value, when the ignition system fails to read this value correctly the car won’t start. The module that performs this ... Read More

1996 Chevrolet Lumina

We now only have a little over 62,000 miles on our 1996 Lumina bought new in April, 1996. Only repair outside of regular scheduled maintenance, has been a rebuilt alternator at around 40,000 miles. Just recently put a new set of tires on at 57,000 miles. Went with the Firestone FR680 radials and after 5,000 miles so far, they seem like an excellent tire for this mid-sized sedan. Those OEM B.F.Goodrich ... Read More

Beware of your engine and gaskets

I've been a loyal customer of GM. I currently own a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, 2000 Pontiac Montana, 1998 Buick Regal, and 1996 Chevy Lumina. I think everyone should know that GM sucks! I replaced the Lumina's engine last year due to a coolant leak at 65K ($5.5K). Earlier this year, I replaced the gaskets on the Regal due to a coolant leak ($750) and this past week, I replaced the the ... Read More

1996 Lumina still a great car!
Written by: jagone on Jul 16, 2002 2:33:00 AM
Our 1996 Lumina has been virtually problem free through 6-years and 3-months ownership since purchasing new in April-1996. Figure we'll be able to milk this sweetheart to 10-years easy maybe even 12. I believe the best mid-size sedan value out there at this time is the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. My Mother-in-law just got one out the door nicely equipped for $16,000, its truly a real nice car for the money! Well ... Read More

Today I was talking to a guy who said that the electric fuel pump in the gas tank of his his Chevy Suburban failed because he frequently let his fuel level come close to empty. Is this an issue on a 1996 Chevy Lumina ???

just traded lumina
Written by: bryul148 on Jan 26, 2000 3:39:34 AM
I just traded a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina with 62000 miles on it for a 1997 Nissan 200SX. I just wanted to add that no matter what you see in these postings, always do a lemon check on a vehicle before you buy one. I found out my Lumina was traded 5 times in 3 years, it was in a serious accident, when I got rid of it the door panels, front ... Read More
