Old girl's been good to me

1993 Chevrolet Lumina 4 Dr STD Sedan
Review
Bought this car in '98 and it's been one of the best things I ever did. I don't know if I just got lucky with it or what, but it's been great. Early problem with alternators, 3 in 2 years. Since then, just keeps going and going. 240,000 on it now. Starting to show some wear this past year. Struts, water pump, rotors had to be replaced. Starting to have other problems show up too, leaking oil, transmission fluid and water. My fault though, I think, I have not really taken very good care of the car. Never changed trans fluid, plugs, oil about every 7500 and never changed coolant, still, it just keeps going! My gas mileage is great for a car this size too,28 mpg. Love another this good!
Favorite Features
MPG, size, power, great AC and heat. Reliability and comfort.
Suggested Improvements
Cupholders, battery accesability.

I loved the style and the handling was beautiful. It was fun to drive and the feel of the wind flow through the car. You gotta love it. I totalled it in a bad collision with 3 consecutive trees after going sideways over a bank but escaped unharmed. I loved this car, but better it then me.
Favorite Features
Automatic on the floor! Huge trunk! Great driving experience!

A common plroblem with this model seems to be that after accelerating it doesn't want to slow down and when you do, the service engine light comes on and it either stalls out or looses power. I thought it was just mine but I've heard from friends and blogs that the same thing happens w/ many others.

One of the worst enginered cars

Mine died at around 75K miles. The transmission slipped, the heads warpped, and boom, the whole thing froze. All in all, it was a basic car, nothing ever troubled me except the brakes, which were entirely replaced 4 times. The rotor design was so poor that I managed to break the rotor from the spindle and that is very rare.
Favorite Features
Factory battery lasted 8 years!

Breaking system needs to be improved!

Since purchasing my Lumina I have had many mixed experiences. First of all, its a blast to drive and is put together quite well. But its like Murphy's Law, "if it can go wrong, it will"...I bought the car for $2000 cash and have put in almost $3000 in parts, and 99% of that is done by myself. If you're not mechanically inclined, it may not be a wise choice. I hope this could help, and happy motoring.
Favorite Features
Standard power, options, and exterior styling.
Suggested Improvements
More reliable componients, ie: radiator\cooling system, front & rear dash, brakes, O2 sensor, and other small internal engine components

We bought this car new in 94, it has been a great car but recently got rid of it to get a two door. We put 98K great miles on it. We had minor repiars thoughout the life on the car. We had to replace the water pump which was something that always goes wrong with GM cars, nothing new, great ride, great handling, good gas mileage, pants is excellent ours was torch red, car held up great, not a dot or rust, 3.1 Liter engine is great. Never buy a GM 3.4 Liter engine sucked on this car.
Favorite Features
Good Stereo had cd player, nice features, rides smooth.
Suggested Improvements
Air Bags, Keyless Entry.

We bought this car as a program car back in 94 and I have been the main driver of it. I get great gas mileage and it has had very little maintenance on it as far as parts going bad. I have almost 190,000 miles on it and I would trust it to drive it across the United States any day. We have thought about buying another Chevrolet but I just hate the idea of getting rid of my Lumina! Even thoough it's almost 12 years old, I still trust it a lot. It's like one of the family. Thank you Chevrolet for making such a great car.
Favorite Features
The driving ability it has. I can see everything, and at night I have trouble seeing but with my Lumina the headlights are so bright, I don't have any trouble.
Suggested Improvements
The only thing I can think of to improve is maybe the dash. Our dash came undone and my husband superglued it back and so far, so good.

I wish Chevy still made Luminas because I would buy another if possible! This has been a great vehicle and we intend to keep it until it just won't go no more but that could be when it has 400,000 miles on it! I would advise anyone if they can get a 1993/1994 Lumina, with low miles, to buy it and keep it. We have the original engine in it but did have our trans rebuilt this year. Our's has over 285,000 miles on it and we bought it 1 year old with 21,000 miles on it. The only repairs we have done to it is normal repairs such as water pumps, fuel pump, batteries, brakes & mufflers. Good cold weather start ups too. Change your oil!!

1993 2 Dr Euro - Bought New

Still have it after 10yrs so I must like it. Have aways liked looks and handling. Brakes are terrible. Gotta use parking brake always else cylinders seize (another $400 bucks twice over). Metal pipes in cooling system all rot and leak. $400 for the one at the intake manifold (broke off during repair). Spliced a hose onto the lower one coming out of the radiator. Really dumb engineering. Needed a new computer at 65K. Also trunk leaks and can't find source. It's red and still looks like new. Very comfortable to ride in. Prefer over my Honda Accord to drive.I must like it...I still have it! 17 and 25-30 mpg, not bad for 3.1 v6.
Favorite Features
Nice riding car and I like the body style on the 2 dr. and it handles great. ABS has saved me 3 times from getting creamed in the snow by morons.
Suggested Improvements
Doesn't apply. No longer made.

This veh drives smooth, when it wants to. From my experience if it's not one thing it's another. So far I've probably invested over 2.5k in repairs here and there. If you're buying this vehicle used make sure that the previous owners were kind to it. Any small lack of maintenance will really affect it's performance. I've had problems with the power windows, radiator core, cooling system, a bunch of electrical problems. It's kinda gotten to a point where I expect it to leave me stranded any day now. It was an expensive "in the meantime" car.
Favorite Features
Like I said, drives smooth (when it runs), interior is very spacious and comfy. Has a sporty look to it (if you get the one with the spoiler. Has good fuel economy, a little gas will take you a long way.
Suggested Improvements
heating/cooling system probs. Electric probs *warning lights, etc* Interior upholster damages easily. Watch out, if the car's sensors aren't working, to let you know there's a prob, you have to const keep up it's maintenance. If U don't U might need costly repairs
overall a good car
