04 impala LS/3.8L/90k miles. CClunking in steering wheel, ABS/traction control lights coming on at random, ABS pump coming on at random, cruise control malfunction, loud whining when I turn. I replaced all rotors and brakes, replaced struts, new tires replaced front wheel hubs, alternator, "greased intermediate steering shaft" and aligned wheels. Car still has a slight shake when I drive, still getting the ABS/TC light, ABS pump still engages AND still a light occaisional clunk in the steering column. even went back myself with a multi meter to check each hub individually to see if a sensor failed and check for bad wiring. Checked out OK. I found the problem. All substandard components.

Favorite Features

Leather, CD, sunroof (can get those anywhere)

Suggested Improvements

Trade in.

We've had our Impala since we bought it new in 04. It is fast, smooth and comfortable, the most comfortable car I've ever ridden in. Seats six with an enormous trunk. We have had absolutely nothing but oil changes, and just recently brakes. I love this car and expect to get another 160,000 miles. We have the Bose stereo and it's the bomb!

Favorite Features

Smooth ride. I have no desire to "feel the road" Acceleration - ZOOM, even with the 3.4

Suggested Improvements

Stop selling it to cops so I won't look like I'm riding in a cop car. (Actually kind of fun making people think I'm an unmarked cop car...)

After driving a 97 Lumina over 110,000 miles with absolutely no trouble and excellent gas mileage I decided to try the Impala. So far this car has also been trouble free. Gas mileage is much better than the EPA rating. I've owned a Honda Accord which was a good car but I did have a few minor problems with. As long as I keep getting trouble free Chevys I'll keep buying them.

Favorite Features

Style and fuel economy.

Bought the car with 36,000 miles. Rides Nice. Handles good. At 66,000 miles now and so far we had to replace intake gaskets (oil leaking into antifreeze) $650, water pump$200, steering $138 ( clunked when turning) and now p. C. M module in transmission $779 (shifting hard when cold or going up hill) and a wheel bearing! By reading comments from other people, all have had the same issue. Some not. Wow the impala use to be bulletproof

Favorite Features

Rides smooth, handles Nice, great for long trips. (thank god it did not break down on vacations!) quiet ride. Big trunk

Suggested Improvements

Quit being cheap when building a car. From 2001-2005 had the same body style, same motors etc., you could not work out the bugs in that time!

My mom bought this car new in 2004 for a really good price. It's a sturdy, good running, reliable car. However, the quality over the years has been terrible. The gas gauge went, the speedometer went, and the temperature gauge went. These I never got fixed because it would cost 450 dollars each to fix. Also, a security sensor went bad, and the car wouldn't start. That I had to pay for. It cost 450 dollars to fix. Also the dim switch went bad on the headlights. Had to get that fixed. Another 450 dollars!! This all happened by 80,000 miles. The gauges went bad at about 40,000 miles. This car was the worst in quality I have ever owned! Other than those things, the car is fine. It runs good.

Favorite Features

Runs good, reliable.

Suggested Improvements

Improve the quality (electrical system), brakes could stand improvement.

The Chevrolet Impala, Hmm hmm hmm. Where do I start. The exterior design is boring to say the least. The interior design even more boring. The heater/AC vents have all broken on my car (Thanks GM for really putting some effort into designing this car) I bought this car used in 2007. Right after I bought it the AC broke and the water pump went out. About $500 in repairs. What else is wrong with this car that shouldn't be: The cigarette lighter went out, the rear defroster went out, the back right window stopped rolling up, I had to replace the front wheel bearing assembly. Ohh and now it makes a loud annoying squeaking sound coming straight from the serpentine belt.

Favorite Features

Comfortable Seats, sometimes make you want to fall asleep. I use to like the exterior until I realized it looks like a grandma's car. It's safe! Although I have the standard version which doesn't have ABS which stinks. Great passenger car that's fun to cruise around with a carload of people.

Suggested Improvements

I would just like GM to put more thought into their vehicles and make them more reliable because this car has been horrible nightmare of repairs one after the other. Everytime I fix everything something else breaks. I suggest buying an '06+

Review

My 2004 Impala has been an overall pleasure to own and drive. After 100 K miles and normal service, it still rides like a dream and has great acceleration. I average about 34 MPG on the freeway and 26 on local driving - tank after tank.

Favorite Features

Fog lights, excellent seat comfort, XM radio.

Suggested Improvements

Find a way to keep the air dam to keep from dragging across the pavement when crossing driveways.

I purchased my 04 Impala brand new and the first year of owning the vehicle I thought it was the best car I ever owned. Year 2 I had to replace the speedometer and the radio, year 3 tie rod, rear hub assembly. Year 4 I had to replace the water pump, rebuild the transmission, and now I am having issues with the coolant system! All in all a major disappointed with GM products, especially a vehicle with a $26,000 sticker price! This is my second Impala, as I had one in 2003 that was wrecked, and I thought this car would last 10 years with no troubles! Boy was I surprised!!!! Chevrolet you need to get it together or I'll have to consider buying a Toyota or Nissan!

Favorite Features

Drives really great on Highway!

Suggested Improvements

You now have a 5 year warranty, I question why you changed from a 3 year to a 5 year? Were there reliability issues, my guess is yes there were reliability and quality issues! Stand by your products!

2004 Chevrolet Impala SS Supercharged 4dr Sedan (3.8L 6cyl S/C 4A)

Review

This car is pretty nice. I have the SS super charged. It's a lot better on gas mileage than I expected. It didn't even take a half a tank of gas to get from where I live to my family's house, like it normally does on the Toyota Camry I had before I traded it for this car. It seems I got a good deal trading in that old Toyota Camry for this Chevy!

Favorite Features

I like the sunroof of the car. Personally I've never had one. My dad had a Volvo with a sunroof but never really used it. So this feature is pretty cool.

Suggested Improvements

It would be nice for a car like this to come with a remote control keychain.

Review

There is nothing more beautiful than an Impala 04! The interior space is perfect and very comfortable. I drove this car for almost three years and never had problems with the engine. I used it for traveling and it was the most comfortable road trip experience driving and as passenger. Even after hitting the 100,000 mile marker, the engine ran smoothly and silently. The Impala is the best car I have ever owned!

Favorite Features

Back seat is roomy! Drives and rides safely! Dual conditioning! General feeling of security!

Suggested Improvements

Should have kept the exterior design but with more interior features.
