2003 Impala
Written by: todd70 on Dec 21, 2012 6:38:44 PM
I've recently purchased a 2003 Impala. I've read several complaints about this model car. According to the owner's manual, certain cylinders will shut down to prevent damage to the motor. In this case, the car would feel as though the transmission is slipping. At best, the thermostat may be a cause for the cylinders to shut down. But, according to the check engine codes, it had something to do with tempature ... Read More

How did you get Chevrolet to pay half cost of your new transmission? We recently had to get a new transmission on our 2001 Impala with 64,000 miles for all the same reasons as these other Impalas with problems postings. We were not offered any compensation from our chevy dealership/service.

Almuerzo, sounds to me like either your air actuator on the passenger side is fried or the vent air arm off the actuator is sticking causing the fuse to blow or you have a short to ground. Did you find the problem?

You've probably already considered this, but you might check a local "you-pull-it" auto parts place and see what a used part might cost. Obviously there's no guarantee on used parts, but when I had a similar problem with my '89 Toyota I think the used HVAC controller costs @ $40, while the new part went for $400. This reminds me of the transmission on the Chevrolet Celebrity and the Chevrolet Lumina. It very well could be the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid, located in the outer casing of the tranmission of the driver's side. There is a gasket that goes bad, allowing fluid to leak into this outer compartment which is otherwise dry and allows the solenoid to work correctly. This outer compartment/casing ends up filling with fluid ... Read More
