Ive been lusting after an impala since the 90s. Finally got the opportunity to rent one for 2 weeks while my main vehicle is in the shop. The car had 23k miles on it, and i put 2k more on. The outside is beautiful, I think we all know that. However, as soon as I sat in it, I said, "this is it?" The leather is nice, and the seat can achieve a wide range of positions, but that's where my … praise ends. Infotainment system and in dash display are beyond dated. They look like something you'd pick up at best buy and install yourself. The headrest is a rock, like you'd get a concussion if you got rear ended. There are no standard driver assists besides blind spot warning. This is necessary because visibility anywhere but directly ahead is limited, however I found it to be unreliable at the best of times. The car is quick, but the transmission on the car I drove was sluggish. There was a lot of hang time between gears, and I never found a way to accelerate that was smooth. The brakes would get rock hard if the car sat for anything more than 3 hours, likely a bad check valve. These issues should not appear on a car with 23k miles. For comparison my primary vehicle is a 2020 honda. It has lane keeping assistance and adaptive cruise standard. Nicer displays, more accurate voice command, and a matching msrp. It's a minivan.
