until the diesel engine is fitted to the HHR you will always be unhappy with either LOW power or fit a larger petrol engine and complain of LOW MPG. this happened with the PT cruiser it started with a 1600cc petrol then a 2litre petrol then a 2.4 petrol then a 2.4 turbo petrol all of which had low MPG. Well, after replacing a part on the steering column, as per the TSB, it didn't work and the noise got worse. My dealer's service manager decided to replace the entire steering column to see if that would do the trick. Why are there 31 technical bulletins listed under the HHR? It dates back to 2001. Is it a tried and tested engine that may have been used on another chevy car? Vibe, Mazda5 etc. etc.. Chevy just should not put engines designed for the much lighter Cobalts into such a very heavy vehicle as the HHR. Or maybe the HHR just shouldn't be as heavy as it is and then the Cobalt engines wouldn't have to struggle to move that weight around as much as they do. Read More...

Glad you finally figured it out. Most people on this forum know that the HHR, PT Cruiser, VW Bug, and dozens of other vehicles are built in Mexico. It's no coincidence that Chrysler doesn't want their over-rated hemi to be known as a Mexican engine. The quality problem is of concern in Mexico, for sure, look at the problems that Volkswagon has been having for one. ... Read More...
