A new model for 2005, the Chevrolet Equinox is a good minivan alternative for small families who aren't looking for a powerful engine or exciting driving experience.

Competent handling is offset somewhat by vague steering and a weakish engine.

Equinox provides good driver space and a smooth, quiet ride. Seat comfort is average.

The second row slides fore and aft, maximizing rear seat legroom or cargo room as needed. A cargo shelf in back allows for two-tier loading.

Well-built with agreeable interior and exterior styling.
