2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT Fwd 4dr SUV (3.4L 6cyl 5A)

Review

This is my first Chevy. I started researching the Equinox before it was available for purchase when I saw the great exterior. I compared it to the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CRV and for the price, it had great options on the LT and a better look. Last summer when I took it in for the 30,000 check up my service tech told me the head gasket had to be replaced, leaking but not cracked. I was shocked but happy to hear it was under warranty and nothing I did could have caused the problem. They fixed it but 6 months later, at the 37,500 check up-the head gasket is leaking again. Makes me think I shouldn't have invested the money in new tires before winter.

Favorite Features

The exterior, smooth ride, comfy seats, stereo, sun roof, auto-dimming rear view mirror and temp gauge.

Suggested Improvements

Wide gap between windshield and hood. Hard to get snow and ice out.

I have had my company car since January 2005 and absolutely loved driving it. I put on 65,000 miles and just replaced the tires. Had an initial clunk from the front at 15,000 miles which was replaced. No further issues to date.

Review

This car is good except for the transmission. The automatic transmission has a high stall converter (2800+ rpm stall) thus the explosive performance but causes me to only get 14-15 in the city under normal driving conditions. The shift points for the car are also very high, on a light throttle the car shifts out of 1st and 2nd gear at 3,000 rpm and no less. On the highway I get 19 with no A/C on going down hill the engine rpm is around 2,400. The mileage sticker on the car from the EPA is very generous and needs to be reviewed again.

Favorite Features

Moving second seat.

Suggested Improvements

Reprogram transmission and change final gear ratio.

It is without a doubt the best buy of all vehicles in this class. Value, money, quality. Enough said

Favorite Features

Price. Ride, handling, quality. It's a super value

Suggested Improvements

Back seat is too bench-like. Center console is cramped if you need to use the emerency brake.

This thing is so reliable. I have had it for 3 years and I just gas and go. No repairs no problems, and I put a little over 37,000 miles on it already. Everything is tight and in great working order. Another quality GM vehicle.

Favorite Features

The heated seats, traction control (I couldnt spin these tires if I tried). The basic comfort and interior space is all you could ask for in a crossover SUV.

Suggested Improvements

The window controls should be put on the door.

Review

I love how it looks. It's fun to drive and handles OK in the snow but not when it's icy. It's too light and needs more weight. I had a minivan with AWD and it handled better because it weighed more. The seating is nice and so are the heated seats. Love them, good for long trips. Headrests are a little too big and get in your view. OK on gas at about 19 mg hwy. Problems with leaky windshield at first, then leaky moonroof. Nice to have but not worth all the hassle. Drainage problems and rot in hose for moonroof. Windshield has problems when weather is bad, unable to clear windshield without hazy streaking. Told it is an environmental problem. My 8 yr old minvan didn't have that problem. It's very problemsome.

Favorite Features

Heated seats, lumbar seating, reclining and moving back seats. XM radio. The width of the door opening in the back seat. Easy to get in and out

Suggested Improvements

Please fix the hazing problems with the windsheilds. I would like to have a low windsheild washer alert, doesnt have one. Miss that. It's hard to know before you run out. Don't paint the interior door handles, it scratches off easly. More sound proofing, lots of wind and road noises.

I've owned my Nox for a little over a month now. My only complaint so far is the gas. I see most everyone complains about that and it's true, the gas could definitly be better. I'm constantly filling up. The little bit of noise I hear when I'm driving is a pain, but nothing to really complain about, it isn't a Caddy or anything. Rides nice, have'nt gotten to experience it in the snow yet, looking forward to that. Sound system is pretty nice love having a sunroof. Spacious vehicle and I do like it so far.

Favorite Features

Rides pretty smooth. My sunroof and radio. It is a fun little SUV to drive, no doubt.

Suggested Improvements

Much better gas mileage, and a bit less outside noise.

Review

20 years ago, I was the guy with the T- shirt that said, I would rather push my Chevy than drive a Japanese car. This vechicle converted me. I have always been a GM person. My next vechicle will be a Mazda, Toyota, or Honda. There is no quality. I have had several trips for warranty work. A door handle, a seat belt that wouldn't latch, a strut hatch, and now another seatbelt that won't latch. Now couple that with high road noise, very loud AC fan motor, and cloth seats that won't come clean.

Favorite Features

If you are blind and deaf, the ride is nice and comfortable. Too much noise and the interior is very cheap. There is plenty of room.

Suggested Improvements

Better quality. There are too many blind spots in the car. When in a parking lot it is very difficult to see any other cars around you.

What a piece of garbage this dud has been! Who designed the interior? The cup holder cannot be used with the E-brake in the way, the sun visor blocks the entire window when down. And the 41.7 foot turning radius? Good luck making a U-turn! Listed at 19-25mpg. We drive 90% freeway and get barely 20mpg even after installing K&N filter.

Favorite Features

Starts in the morning. Goes when I push on the gas, stops when I apply brakes. That's about it.

Suggested Improvements

Gas mileage is a lie! Interior design/quality/craftmanship. Chevrolet needs to stand behind their vehicles, we went up the ladder pretty high and got no resolution to our issues. Turning radius. Oh yeah and hope you never have to change transmission fluid. It is "special" and cost $17.85/quart!

Review

After more than fifty years experience driving many types of motor vehicles, I can sincerely state that in all aspects, this is the best one for the price. Had it two years, and not one complaint. My wife loves it also.

Favorite Features

Handling, performance, appearance, comfort, and dependability.

Suggested Improvements

I find it difficult to use the cup holders on the center arm rest when the parking brake is applied.
