C/D tested the Cruze Eco 6MT vs. the Volt and got 47 mpg with the Eco in their "commuting" test. They also found that mpg at steady speeds up to the low 60s resulted in 50+ mpg on the Eco. So 50 mpg on the Eco stick appears achievable in the real world, under the right conditions. Not in all-city driving or high-speed highway driving, however. http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2011-chevrolet-volt-vs-2011-chevrolet-cr- - uze-eco-comparison-test
As to Cruze Quality, I purchased a 2011 cruze eco stick last May, I have run my own automotive specialty shop for 35 years and I am a member of thew SAE. The Cruze was the first car I have really been excited about in 20 years. It truly is a "World" class car,. I researched the car for months and even gave a presentation at a Chevy dealer on the ... So if I go Chevy it will be the Cruze, preferably the Eco 6MT but given it's price I'd have to get a good deal on it. I test drove the Cruze, the Sonic, and the Ford Focus. I ultimately ended up purchasing the Cruze ECO with a 6MT. The Focus was ok, but the car I drove actually broke down on the test drive.. :P > The main thing I ... Read More

Sandman, could you please post the current residual and money factor numbers for a lease of a 2012 Chevy Cruze, 1LT, for 12,000 miles a year(less if they have that) for terms of 36 and 48 months. Also are there lease incentives through either Ally or Chevy. Thank you
just recently purchased a 2012 hyundai elantra gls for $18,000.00 after compareing it to a 2011 chevy cruze LS.msrp for the cruze LS was $18,700.00 elantra blew it away with it's standard features such as cruise control, power side mirrors, more power,warranty.4-wheel disk brakes,..all these things were missing on the cruze and were standard on the elantra.the cruze is a cavalier and cannot compete with the elantra at this price point....

I test drove the same car yesterday and had the opposite reaction - loved it, including the NVH aspects (noise vibration handling)! The 1.8L engine was fine for what I'm looking for, very efficient. Also I found the Cruze LS automatic transmission predictably/comfortably slushy and behaving exactly as an automatic should -(functioning as designed - revving exactly the same as you observed, steven39! ) After the test-drive of the automatic, I ... Hey Car_man, Can you please post the residual value, money factor, and incentives for June for a 2011 Chevy Cruze ECO with an MSRP of $20, 625 for 48 months and 15k miles per year (I want 18k miles but understand that I would have to prepay for the extra miles instead)? Very positive review of the Eco in USA Today today: http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/reviews/healey/2011-05-26-chevrolet-cruze-ec- o-test-drive_n.htm And almost 50 mpg recorded on the highway!

Why anyone would pick the 3 over the Cruze is beyond me. The Cruze is just lightyears ahead of the Mazda."
Wait till next year. GM is famous for deleting what standard equipment there is and including it in expensive packages so that you can't get something without getting other stuff that you might not want. You may be right about 2011 Sonata. The last one I drove was a 2009 and while it was okay, the NVH was like an Excel. I agree few people will cross shop a big car like the Sonata (EPA Large Car) with a Cruze. The Elantra is the Cruze's competition. Hyundai's dealer network bothers me too. Once the Sonata transmission line is up in Alabama, the NA content will be over 50%. The Sonata was designed in California. The people dissing the 2011 as tinny have obviously never driven one. I looked online, and the 2011 Sonata has 41% NA parts content...even less than current Cruzes. Yes and 100% of the vehicle profit goes back to Asia. The Sonota and Elantra are still too rough in ... Read More
I'm not thrilled with the Cruze's North American content, but it is made by an American company. Chevy's primary headquarters and chief staff aren't in South Korea like Hyundai's. I just priced a Cruze on Chevy's website, and comparably equipped, the Sonata is less than $1000 more than a Cruze. Chevy is going to get killed on this car. The Sonata is twice as big, gets 35mpg and has a much better warranty.
How can a car be a "rip-off" if you didn't buy it? :P Chevrolet developed a premium small car in the Cruze. The 10hp difference you noted means little. It's torque that counts and where in the rev band it's produced. 148hp at 6,000 rpms means next to nothing for the average driver who never goes over 5,000 rpms. The Cruze will be quieter and ride smoother than the 3. If ... Read More

Well, one of the things they really badly need to do is kick the rental car addiction - ie, pump up sales with massive rental sales when retail sales don't go their way. They NEED the Cruze to be the car people actually want ... Read More
The base engine could be a massaged 2.2 Ecotec, for cost purposes and for those who would prefer time tested over leading edge technology. It's also possible that, with a six speed transmission (manual or automatic), a naturally aspirated 2.0 Ecotec would yield a better blend of fuel economy and performance for the base engine. As far as achieving a real-world combined 40 mpg is concerned, we'll have to wait and ... Read More
I agree. The styling is better, and hopefully so is the interior.
