Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon Engine Problems

  • Re: 2008 Canyon engine [donnyr]

Written by: aaronmiller on Apr 10, 2013 9:25:43 PM

2008 gmc canyon, 4 cyl, 80k miles. Mine knocks when it's cold. When I was a little kid, my dad had a chevy nova that knocked all the time and it ran better on it's way to the junk yard than my canyon does now. It knocks and sputters unless I let it run for 10 minutes before I drive it. Everyone makes fun of me for it. I mentioned this ... Read More

I have a 2005 Crew Cab Z71 4X4. I did not expect a luxury vehicle when I purchased it new four and one half years ago. I treat it like a truck but don't abuse it. Now have 55,000 miles on it. No real problems. I replaced the factory tires at 50,000 with BFG AT's. Made a huge difference, especially in snow and rain. I use it to commute 30 miles ... Read More

Hi everyone, I purchased a 2006 Chevy Colorado about 4 years ago. About 2 years ago i first experienced the ABS fault issue. I touched the brake pedal to slow down and the vehicle veered off to the right, i corrected it in time but what had happened is the ABS activated for some reason but was only working on the right side of the vehicle. The ABS stayed activated for ... Read More

I just purchased a 2006 H3 with 70000 miles. It experiences a rough idle. Post purchase, I find out about the valve seat issue. The direct question; is GM warranteeing the valve seat and/ or head replacement on this 3.5L Engine? I did locate the following and my VIN# falls in to the list. #PIP3935D: Misfire At Idle Due To Leaking Intake Valves - Supplement To 07-06-01-011 - keywords 2.8L 3.5L ... Read More

  • Colorado Brakes: Any Recall / Bulletins?

    Written by: kooltruck500 on Oct 15, 2011 2:36:25 PM

I see a common theme of ongoing issues in these posts on brake and ABS issue with the Colorado / Canyon. My 2008 Colorado 2WD started having ABS issues at 18k miles just before the 36 month warranty was up, I took it to the Chevy dealer thinking it would be covered under warranty. However, they told me "it wouldn't be covered because there was rust on the brakes" and "rusty ... Read More

I am so glad to have found this forum while researching what is going on with my 2006 Colorado. I am having the very same problems as all of you with my ABS brakes and in general many electrical issues. I have never replaced so many bulbs in a truck as this one! • 3.7L Engine Tapping Noise at Cold Start

I completely gave up with my Chevy dealer service. I changed my 2008 Colorado 3.7 motor oil to Castrol Synthetic 5-30 and an OE Delco filter. The tapping noise after cold start is currently gone. Synthetic is a superior lubricant. I will keep all informed on the status.

I'm very surprised that people stay faithful to a product that fails on such a grand scale. In my last post I commented on my satisfaction with earlier Toyota products. In 1990 the Toyota I bought was bullet proof. The 1998 Corolla was up there at 90%. Although I found that car annoyingly underpowered for freeway travel, I didn't keep it long, I bought a Mazda. In 2003 I bought a ... Read More

You could have sat down and read and reread the owners manual so you wouldn't have to ask this question as you would know what is needed to be done. Also waiting till the oil light comes on in most peoples opinion is waiting till the oil has outlived it usefulness. And hopefully the oil light you are talking about is one that means it is time/past time to change the ... Read More

I never throught I would buy a Colorado because the automotive press has always been so hard on them, but the deals over the past few weeks were too good to resist. Frankly, once I test drove one, it was clear the press had really exaggerated any drawbacks compared to the Tacoma. Also, after reading on the internet about Tacoma's un-resolved "engine surge" issues and the company's refusal to acknowledge them, ... Read More

Here is my whole thought on the matter - I know that Isuzu and Gm were to be joint developing this truck and if it is indeed true that Isuzu flubbed up and didn't create an engine bay big enough to hold the I6 (which would have been awsome in the Colorado), than I am curious to see what might happen in the future. My whole feeling on the Colorado is ... Read More

I just purchased a 2008 Chevy Colorado 2.9L crew cab.  At 1400 mi I began noticing a knocking/rattling noise during cold start-ups. The noise diminishes after a few seconds, but has now worsened at 4100 mi.   I have recently brought the truck into the dealer for servicing.  Their initial diagnosis was that the spark plugs were making the noise!!!  Spark plugs!!!  I then had them keep the truck another day, they ... 2008 Frontier quote Truckin- All in all, the Frontier is easily one of the strongest contenders in the midsize class in my book. Though the Toyota Tacoma certainly has its fans, and is a formidable competitor in most respects, it lacks the eagerness and responsive, sporty edge that the Frontier has. Even with the Dodge Dakota offering an optional V8, and the Chevy Colorado about to, the 4.0L VQ engine provided ... Read More
