Summary

What Edmunds.com says

It has the size, the features and the looks necessary to become the dominant truck in the compact class -- just don't mistake it for a midsize.

Pros

Versatile size, strong engine lineup, available side curtain airbags and locking differential, standard ABS.

Cons

Still not as big as a Dakota, no V8 option, can't tow as much as the competition.

What's New for 2004

The Colorado is an all-new compact pickup from Chevrolet.

Review

I bought new in 7-03, thought that since the S-10's this would be better. This is single-handedly the worst vehicle I ever owned out of 10+ GM products. The 5 cylinder had no power and even worse fuel economy. The worst is the front end, Isuzu product that is junk. Replace your front brake rotors and you'll know what I mean - the design is ridiculous. The GM book rate is 6+ hours to remove a rotor. Then the flex hose to the rear brakes broke down internally and the micro rubber particles jammed up the rear brakes and the ABS system. I traded it in before I paid the approx $1700 for the replacement. I called GM with this complaint, they never called back! Premium gas only or sensors lit daily

Favorite Features

Front seat was fairly comfortable.

Suggested Improvements

Get rid of the engineers that designed this truck! Get rid of the Isuzu front end. Get some low end in the motor. Put better brake components on it. Make it capable of using regular fuel without all the motor sensors coming on due to fowling. GM wouldn't make the dealership refund my repl gas cap $s

Review

I have driven Fords for 30yrs this is my 2nd Chevy. This truck is great. Well pleased. Good on gas, 3.5 motor 21-23 around town, great for 4x4. Chevy built a great truck in this line.

Favorite Features

Run great, smooth ride, nice interior.

Suggested Improvements

Keep it like it is, maybe plush up the seats a little.

I purchased this truck used in 2006. After just a few hundred miles I saw I was in trouble. Running interstate speed, the truck would quiver so bad you were unable to see ot the rearview mirror. It had pleanty of power, but really loved the gas. With gas prices over $4, it had to go.

Review

i had to let my S10 go due to penny pinching. but I loved the truck. I did not expect the Colorado to be as good as it is but the 2.8 is great for mileage and power and the sound system is the best stock I have heard yet.

Favorite Features

The 2.8 is enough to carry the truck with out useng a lot of gas.

Suggested Improvements

None that I can think of

Review

Bought this used with 49K miles 5 months ago, now has 55k miles. The guy that traded it in thought the truck had electrical issues because blower speeds 1-3 would cut out and the CD player wouldnt eject. I bought the truck with little fear being that Im a technician. Tracked the blower issue down to a loose connection at the connector on the blower resistor. The CD drive was jammed with crumbs/dust, and just needed to be cleaned and lubed. Fixed both at a cost of $0 (probably $500 otherwise) and the truck has been great since. No leaks anywhere and still feels solid. I average 21 in the city, and 25-26 on the highway with the 4 cylinder/M5 combo.

Favorite Features

Exterior design. Fuel economy. Smooth shifting 5 speed. Crew cab design

Suggested Improvements

Improve interior. 4 cyl power only comes into concern when trying to pass on freeway. But GM is offering the 5.3 V8 in '09. Wish they would offer it with a manual though!
