I have a 2009 Cobalt. All of the power plugs are out. When I pulled the fuse panel on the passenger side of the vehicle I looked for the fuse to these plugs. There is no diagram or markings to show which fuse goes to the AUX power plugs. There are three inside this car. I pulled the entire cowling from between the two seats and traced the wires into a ... I am having the same problem and my car just 75,000 miles i have a 2009 Cobalt i bought it back in Feburary this year and it had 52,000 on it. Most of my miles are from the highway going to work 44 miles each way. The dealer I got it from says its becuase i have more than one key on my key ring and that is causing stress on ... Read More
My daughter has a 2009 Chevy Cobalt that has the same problem and customer service from Chev did not want to own up to there being a problem. I have never had an ignition swith go in any vehicle we have ever owned let alone on one with only 55k miles. Chevy needs to own up to there being a problem.
Hi, I own a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt LT 4 door Sedan. I purchased it in May 2009 with 29,110 miles on it. I am having issues with my speaker system and my stereo display. My stereo display flickers frequently then displays fine. My speaker system will intermittently not work in the front for about 30 minutes of time while still working in the back. At first I thought this was an ... Read More
I have a 2009 LT1 red coupe. I picked it up off the lot in the fall of 2008 when they had that Employees Discount. If I had ordered the LT2 I wanted it would have had the same discount a month or so later. In any case the LT1 is fine. I get around 23 in town and as much as 41 on the road- normally around 38. The car ... Read More
Saturday evening (3 nights ago) I purchased a new Chevy Cobalt LS Coupe (2009). I live approximately 45 minutes from the dealership and the whole way home there was a squeaking/rattling noise coming from right behind the glove compartment or in the right/top engine compartment area (from the driver's perspective). I tried to call the dealership on the way home but they were in the process of closing when I left ... Read More
I bought a new Cobalt in 2007 and have had no problems with it. The imports are way over rated! Many auto writers are clearly overly biased toward the imports for some reason and that is unfortunate since we are looking to them for the truth when researching vehicles. I looked at others before buying and chose the Cobalt because it was more comfortable, cheaper, more horsepower, higher MPG, and came ... Read More
Is your cobalt an automatic or Stick Shift? because if it is a stick shift, it could be the clutch. Meaning that either you are letting go the clutch pedal too soon when the streetlight turns green and you are trying to rush the traffic. Just by letting go the clutch pedal too soon will stall the engine and cause it shutdown leaving the radio on (safety feature) Of course, my ... Read More
Micweb writes: "I think most of the negative reviews are bogus..." Interesting observation. I'd hate to have that same experience at the expense of buying four tires when I need only two. Also, my rear tires are covered by Continental's prorated warranty. On Tirerack's page about OE tires, they state: "Only the vehicle manufacturer and tire manufacturer working together to develop the OE tire can determine exactly which tire design and ... Read More
I "upgrade" (so I thought at the time) the stock Contis on my '06 Cobalt to Kumho Solus KH4's, a tire which I have used on other cars and think is quite good, comparable to Bridgestone 950's. Unfortunately the Kumho's were noisier and did NOT improve handling or ride. The stock Conti's are actually pretty good tires. I think most of the negative reviews are bogus reviews. That has been my ... Read More
I recently bought an 07 LS, and this is my first post on this forum. The stock Continental TouringContact AS tires have been okay for me. I like the ride comfort and low noise (as does my wife, who is very picky about that), and I haven't had any problems with handling on dry or wet roads. The front ones are new, and the rear ones need to be replaced soon. ... Read More
Focus is something I wouldn't buy. Heard alot of bad things. Cobalt has style and are good on gas mileage, more reliable, handles great and are good cars. (I have a cobalt LS) Elantra gets more mpg than chevys or any other cars and is great if you need a family car. I know some people who has Elantra, and says those cars gets about 41 mpg hwy/ 36 city (just ... Read More
Reviews of the four door, save for any discussion on rear seat space, are going to be identical to the coupe, so you're not missing much. I recently purchased an '09 Cobalt SS sedan about a month ago and these are the only differences I was able to see between the two models: - Coupe can be optioned with the reconfigurable performance display, the sedan cannot. The standard boost gage is ... Read More
I've usually stuck with the same tire that originally came on the car but I've discovered that sometimes the cheapest cars have the most expensive tires. The Continental tires on my Cobalt seem fine and if they hold up I'll replace them with an identical one. The car handles fine and I don't have any problem with the original equipment tires. You are right though. There can be a vast different ... Read More
I find it hard to not only find pics of the 4 door turbo but also reviews are far and slim. Looking to get feedback from owners-likes, dislikes, etc... As well as reviews, pics and what not. Thnks.
I just got back from a Chevy dealer here in Rochester NY who has an ad in the newspaper that say they are selling ALL 2009 Cobalts for $5000 off MSRP. They had 268 in stock at the time of the ad. This is a legit price with NO ad ons other than reasonable costs for T,T, and L. The $5K discount is available to ALL buyers with no requirements. They ... Read More

You did very good on the $11,700 price, but probably overpaid for the warranty. By about $500. But no deal is perfect and if you agonize over $500 you'll lose sleep. I would make sure you have bumper to bumper coverage on the extended warranty, since GM already gives you a 5 year/100,000 mile power train warranty. And make sure it is a GM warranty and not a third party warranty. ... Read More

I think the tirerack.com tire tests are quite good, and the customer comments can be helpful. The one caveat is that everyone there seems to hate OEM (came with the car) tires and in my experience, stock tires are usually much better than the ratings at tire rack would indicate. Several times I changed from low rated factory tires to highly rated aftermarket tires, based on the information at tire rack, ... Read More
Frankly tires are tires. I couldn't disagree more, but that'd be off-topic. I suggest those interested in replacement tires check out somewhere such as tire-rack to see the differences.
Yeah, I'm aware that the Mazda3 is in its last year, and as it turns out, the Rabbit has already been replaced (in Europe) as well, so both of my two finalists are "lame-duck" cars. Appropriate given our current economic and political situation. ;) As far as which version of the cars; I drove the models that offered the best mix of fuel economy (my 25,000 annual commute miles were looming ... As I recall my Impala had Integrity tires. They were just fine. I frankly don't think that there is anything different about the XFE tires. Frankly tires are tires. I am sorry though that I don't have alloy wheels on my ... Read More

I have some problems with the road test. First off, the mileage difference between a bare bones LS XFE and my 09 LT1 coupe that has all the basics -automatic, cruise, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, keyless entry etc along with better seats is minimal. Why be uncomfortable for a couple of miles per gallon. I can always drive slower if I have problems with gas mileage, I have the ... Read More

Wow- Edmunds really has a chip about the Cobalt. My 2008 Cobalt LS XFE sounds like a Cadilac compared to the 2009 Cobalt XFE. My gas milage is above EPA estimates and I don't drive like grandma. Maybe I could work for Edmunds?
Fuel economy. It's on everyone's mind and the guys at Chevy want you to know it's on theirs, too. So once you equip the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt LS sedan with a five-speed manual transmission, it becomes the XFE — eXtra Fuel Economy. 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Sedan XFE Full Test
OnStar and XM Radio? I'm loving the XM radio, there are so many channels to chose from I can fairly easily find some odd-ball stuff of interest. Makes me realize how completely repetitive the playlists are on most FM stations. VVT (variable valve timing) on the 2.2 engine, which seems to have made the 2.4 redundant for now (the 2.4, besides having more displacement, also had fully variable valve timing). The ... Read More
Boy the 2009 automatic is good. The engine has gotten stronger over the years (now up to 155 or so horsepower!) while mileage has gone up (from 30 under the "old" measurement to 30 under the "new" measurement to 33 this year despite the stricter EPA testing). I like the "digital information center" which now shows the actual pressure in each tire (my other two cars only warn me if the ... Read More
I assume that it will improve when it gets broken in. Compared to a 1999 Century (17) and my 2003 DeVille (15) it is great. The best thing about the car (compared to Toyotas and other Japanese compacts) is the ride. I don't see much difference from the 2006 Impala I had. Obviously there is no comparison with the Cadillac but for a small car it rides very well. Toyotas are ... Read More
I'm about to buy a 2009 Cobalt LT Coupe. I've rented several with no problems at all and got roughly 28 mpg on the average in local driving. Your car is under warranty. If the dealer fails to correct ... Read More

Agreed on all of your points. I've recently driven two Cobalts (fairly tarted up versions that were rentals), a Civic, a Mazda 3 and a Rabbit, and while the Rabbit is significantly more fun to drive than any of the above (although the M3 ain't too bad), mileage will suddenly become a huge issue if I take this contract. Looking at it from a $4.00 per gallon basis, and with my ... Read More

I drove a base model 5-speed 2008 Cobalt LS sedan this morning. I had just stepped out of a 2009 Corolla base 5-speed not 15 minutes before, so I was biased toward the new redesigned Corolla walking onto the Chevy lot. The Corolla felt extremely solid and easy to drive. The salesperson was cordial and the car was very impressive compared to the used 2007 Corolla CE 5-speed that I test ... Read More
That could be true, but the sales have dropped-off. That is pretty standard with the life-cycle of any car. All the things I see indicate that 2009 will now be the last year for the current Cobalt platform. It looks like car will get a substantial re-design and the name plate may or may not stay. Sales people can be good sources if information, but they can also be bad, especially ... Read More
You can't claim a car has more hp because it is lighter. You can only make a hp claim if a car has been put on a dyno and remember, hp sells cars, but torque wins races. Hello tpulak, If you can wait until February 11, 2007, I would recommend 2009 Toyota Corolla. It will be new generation Corolla with good fuel economy and many standard options.
