Where do I begin?
Written by: jlajackson on Jun 21, 2011 12:54:17 PM
I have had my 2005 Chevy Cobalt since 2006 and in this time I have needed a new fuel sensor (the car would die when I put it in reverse to back up), the key has gotten stuck in the ignition, the gear shift needed to be replaced, I had a hole in some random air valve that caused water from the AC to leak all over the passenger side floor, ... Thanks for your response. My vehicle is 2006 Cobalt LS, VIN 1G1AK55F167820802. Purchased as a insurance rebuild 2 years ago, so out of warranty. (It was side damage only). I took my vehicle to Christiansen Chevrolet, Highland, IN in Feb. '11 to replace power steering motor under recall. Made the existing electrical/trans/power steering issue worse. Took it back 2-3 weeks later at which point they diagnosed the TCM module. I knew ... Read More

I have not involved customer assistance nor has the dealer spoke to Technical assistance. The car blew the park neutral fuse again. I took it to a shop and they said ( but could not guarantee ) it was the park neutral switch. I paid them about $400 and then about a month late the park neutral fuse blew again and about two week later the HVAC fuse blew as well. ... Read More

Yes...the heating/cooling system has failed again. This is the second time on that. I want to trade it for a different car, but the financing people (GMAC/now Ally) will only consider taking less than I owe if I get another Chevy...why would I do that?

2006 Chevy Cobalt Electrical Issues
Written by: gdawg415 on Mar 28, 2011 10:36:18 PM
I have a 2006 Cobalt and it keeps blowing 2 separate fuses. First fuse to blow was the Climate Control System, Cluster Fuse #16 in the passenger side kick panel. Second fuse to blow was the Park Neutral fuse in the fuse box under the hood. I had been driving the car around and the # 16 fuse kept blowing out then one day I got into the car and the ... The problem with the new Impala (as opposed to the previous model -pre 2006) is that the gas mileage is a lot lower. We were averaging 28 mpg on the 2004 model vs. 24.5 on the 2007 model with the SAME driving mix.

The new chevy impala might be good. But I had bad experiences with it. Loose trim pieces falling apart, EGR valve replacement at only 5,000 miles(I don't know what this thingamajig even does, but the dealers said I had to replace it, and I had to never replace this thing in my camry) , spark plug replacement at only 15,000 miles, and a terrifying depreciation rate.(bought an impala 2006, for $26,250, ... I bought a Corolla CE with NO options, not even floor mats (about $50) and I find it well equipped. The Chevrolet Cobalt has experienced a nearly 80 percent increase in sales during the first three months of 2006 compared to the amount of Lordstown-built vehicles sold in 2005. - newspaper report Obviously none of the buyers are enthusiasts, since this board is quiet (and the Civic and Fit boards are very active).

2006 Coupe LS, Manual Transmission ($12,990 MSRP)
Written by: micweb on Apr 3, 2006 11:56:36 AM
Primary reasons for choosing: Rock bottom price, strong engine, great gas mileage, second year of new model. Rock bottom price: This was stickered at 14,990 until mid January, when Chevy instituted its new pricing strategy and repriced the coupe at $12,990, a terrific price. The new pricing strategy added a lot of value to the Cobalt, since Chevy had been stingy on rebates on this model before then. I also benefited ... Read More

Most people who buy Cobalts aren't big car fans. They want transportation. So the majority of owners, without problems, just never care and never post. People who own ANY brand and have problems post and complain; check out the Civic 2006 board for a high proportion of complaints. Chevy hasn't done a great job of tapping into the enthusiast market. The Cobalt has a great engine, a 2.2 liter engine with ... Read More

Oh no, this is deja vu all over again! Sounds like my days with new Oldsmobiles, where you took the car back in say eight times when new. Later on, once rebuilt, it usually slowed down to a strange occurrence, only now-and-then. You do meet new friends, as in knowing the service managers on a first name basis. What's good? Well... The Cobalt does have a pretty powerful engine for its ... Read More

But they sell for $16,995 often here on the Left Coast. Mazda6 is a pretty fair deal. And they had the Mazda3 for $13,999, or something like that. A Tribute for $15,999 right now, and about three months ago, they had one, I sat in for $14,999. Maybe Chevy just needs to adjust the prices on downward. Good wheel choices
Written by: aveman on May 22, 2005 8:53:47 AM
I guess I think the wheel choices Chevy is going with is mostly pretty good. The 15" inch wheels offered on the LS model are the perfect size for my needs.I don't know about Cobalt for 2006, but the HHR will offer a sport suspension option on some models. That option will come with 17" wheels. While I sort of wish that option was available with 16"" inch wheels, the standard ... Read More

I test drove a Cobalt...
Written by: micweb on Apr 29, 2005 10:05:37 AM
And in size, the Cobalt is a VW Golf/Jetta clone, which actually makes it SMALLER than a Focus. Remember, the Focus adopts that new "sit up and beg" pseudo minvan/SUV seatig position - so although the wheelbase, length, and width are similar, interior volume and spaciousness are quite different. In fact, the "normal" (by today's standards, low) seating position in the Cobalt makes it feel cramped compared to the Scion xA, ... Read More

They just love to review fully loaded $30K + cars instead of the "poorer of working class" models. A car magazine which tested both the base and optional engine cars would be refreshing. Edmund's and MSN Auto do some testing of more lowly models, which is a good thing. Pick up a typical mag. and you will see a review of the 911 vs. Corvette. While I like both cars, I ... Read More

It's March of 2005 already. Here they are doing tests on 2006 models, Infiniti M45/M35 Lexus G2300/400 Honda Ridgeline, Mitsubishi Evolution, BMW 3 series. Did they forget about the poor Cobalt?
