I've been satisfied with GM products all my life. (1977 chevelle malibu=97K) (1984 chevrolet blazer s-10= 102k) (1992 safari=28k ride off) (1994 blazer s-10 65=k) (1999 venture=75k) and now I drive a 2005 Equinox since may 2005 with 13k on it. All these vehicles were great. And my next could be a Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe. I'm not interested by bying a foreign car and putting a North American citizen on ... Read More

First I'd like to say for my second car I am rather impressed. My first car was a 2003 Chevy Cavalier VLX. Some would say anything is better than a Cavy, but 76000 KM in 2 years of city driving, two accidents (not of my own) and I have NEVER had a problem with it. Now for my Cobalt. The Chevrolet Cobalt has experienced a nearly 80 percent increase in sales during the first three months of 2006 compared to the amount of Lordstown-built vehicles sold in 2005. - newspaper report Obviously none of the buyers are enthusiasts, since this board is quiet (and the Civic and Fit boards are very active).

2006 Coupe LS, Manual Transmission ($12,990 MSRP)
Written by: micweb on Apr 3, 2006 11:56:36 AM
Primary reasons for choosing: Rock bottom price, strong engine, great gas mileage, second year of new model. Rock bottom price: This was stickered at 14,990 until mid January, when Chevy instituted its new pricing strategy and repriced the coupe at $12,990, a terrific price. The new pricing strategy added a lot of value to the Cobalt, since Chevy had been stingy on rebates on this model before then. I also benefited ... Read More

Most people who buy Cobalts aren't big car fans. They want transportation. So the majority of owners, without problems, just never care and never post. People who own ANY brand and have problems post and complain; check out the Civic 2006 board for a high proportion of complaints. Chevy hasn't done a great job of tapping into the enthusiast market. If it's clear water (not radiator coolant) that's pouring onto the floor of the car, it's condensation from the air conditioner that isn't draining properly. You must have this fixed so mold doesn't grow and cause the car to stink. :( The dealer is incompetent if this isn't fixed immediately because it's so obvious what the problem is................Richard

I just bought a 2005 Cobalt with NO options for $8999. That was 1300 UNDER employee pricing....I found many different prices in my search. YOU CAN NEGOTIATE with Chevy dealers during this promotion just like always. SOme may say that they will not go under employee price but others will. I found 3 other dealers willing to cut employee prices lower to get the sale. Good luck

frustrated8, Actually, no, I did not attempt to enforce the Lemon Law. I probably should have though. The regional GM rep was a hard nut to crack regarding a buyback. About the best I could get out of him without hiring an attorney was a "free 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty". In Florida, you have to have it in the shop three times for the same problem then contact the manufacturer and if the problem happens for a fourth time GM steps in and tries to fix it. Or it has to be in the shop for 15 days then you can start the process. I have already reported the problems ... Read More

I really do not understand what the problem was with starting a forum that explicitly pertains to Cobalt-related issues--since many other vehicle forums on Edmunds have these. At any rate, I can identify with what you're going through with your Cobalt. I purchased a new Chevy TrailBlazer LTZ back in June of 2001 as a 2002 model. are way up - 22,700+ units sold. Sales must be reflecting the excellent side impact ratings. I think buyers are realizing this vehicle is a real contender in its class. Chevrolet car sales as a whole are up 7.6% for 2005 year to date (January thru April).

And in size, the Cobalt is a VW Golf/Jetta clone, which actually makes it SMALLER than a Focus. Remember, the Focus adopts that new "sit up and beg" pseudo minvan/SUV seatig position - so although the wheelbase, length, and width are similar, interior volume and spaciousness are quite different. In fact, the "normal" (by today's standards, low) seating position in the Cobalt makes it feel cramped compared to the Scion xA, ... Read More

Only Two Small Cars Passed the IIHS.org side impact tests

The Insurance Institute's test involves crashing a pickup truck or SUV height vehicle, with contoured front end, into the side of the tested vehicle at 31 mph. Since the point of contact with an SUV is higher than that of a car, and since they weigh more, very few vehicles can pass ... Read More

Surely the 84 pictures at http://www.wieck.com/public, and the many other pictures at http://www.chevrolet.com/cobalt, are pretty indicative of what the 2005 Cobalt will look like.
