1993 Chevrolet Chevy Van G20 3dr Van

Review

Bought used April 2004 with 94,500 miles. Van now (July 2006) 125,000 miles on it. It's a G20 Shorty (180in long) with a 4.3L engine. The front end is excellent, compared to Ford van. Gas mileage ranges from 17 (city) to 20 (highway) at 65mph. Engine has been very reliable. A/C is a constant problem. The A/C compressor has been replaced twice in the last two years, and is broken again now. The factory jack is very clumsy to use.

Best Features

The front suspension and steering is head and shoulder above that of the Ford econoline. Overall a reliable workhorse. Cruise control is simple, functional, and free of gimmicks (idiot lights).

Worst Features

The van's width is 79". Make it 5 inches wider to provide both driver and passenger real lateral foot room.

Late post but hopefully it will help others with Chevy air conditioning compressor problems. From my research a factory GM ac compressor has a weak spot with the rear seals (that is where mine blowed out). You have to find a replacement that has a strap across the back of the compressor. This fixes the weak spot with the rear seals. Do not buy one unless it mentions this simple but crucial feature !
