Review of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

  • Despite the new look, there's no hiding the fact that this car was engineered more than a decade ago, leaving it hopelessly outclassed by nearly every other car on the market.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Low price, torquey four-cylinder engine, optional satellite radio and OnStar.

  • Cons

Ancient design inside and out, cheap interior materials, poor build quality, low resale value, poor side-impact and front-offset crash test results.

  • What's New for 2004

Not much. An upgraded stereo with a CD and MP3 player is now available on the base coupe and sedan. The Sport Appearance package that includes 16-inch wheels, a rear spoiler and sport suspension is also available on the base coupe and sedan.

Great value

Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport 2dr Coupe (2.2L 4cyl 5M)

Bought my Cavalier in 4/04. It is fully loaded with a 5 speed (a must have). Had a $4,000 rebate from GM when it was purchased. Got it for around $14,500 brand new! Have almost 100,000 miles on it. I have a long commute everday to work, and this car has taken it in stride. The only things I have had to replace on this car was a idle control sensor (within the first month after I bought the vehicle), front brake pads (just once), and I just bought my third set of tires. Thats all--I have not even had the rotors turned on this car--I can't believe it. Does suprisingly well in the snow. If you are looking for a great/affordable car--this should without a doubt be your choice.

Good for the price

Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport 2dr Coupe (2.2L 4cyl 5M)

I bought my car in Nov of 2006, about to trade it in for something different. The suspension is really bad (every bump or hole in the road makes my car sound like it's dying, when any other car I've been in will go over the same ones very smoothly). I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with babies (small back seat), it's not very safe (car would crumble in an accident), the front bumper is removable, it kind of "clips" on, the turn signal lights and tag light have been replaced many times, gas mileage is not that great! There is no way it's 30MPG. I'd say more like 20. It's not a bad car, overall I enjoyed having it.

Good, cheap commuter car

Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport 2dr Coupe (2.2L 4cyl 5M)

I bought this car for the fuel economy and a manual transmission. I'm a college student who commutes to class every day, so the good gas mileage helps (~25-30 MPG city depending on traffic).

I love my car!

Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport 2dr Coupe (2.2L 4cyl 5M)

I bought my '04 Cavalier back in '04. I love the way my car handles, I love the way the car looks (especially since I lowered it and added rims to it). I find the car has great fuel mileage. I own the Z-Type which is the Z-24 without the power options and 16" rims. after 2 years, the car has treated me good with no problems.

My cav

Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport 2dr Coupe (2.2L 4cyl 5M)

Love the pep and handling. Only problem is the slave cylinder for the clutch went out. WhenI took it to Chevrolet for repair, I had to wait a day because they were waiting on parts for another 2004 with the same problem.

Loving my new car

Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport 2dr Coupe (2.2L 4cyl 5M)

The car as a whole is great and I am very satisfied. The car has great pickup and looks really good, especially after it's been waxed out here in the desert sun. My only complaint is rattling I hear coming from the center console during normal driving. Pressing my leg against it while driving helps, but it's not a good solution to the problem.
