I had to do the conversion to miles and I think I have you beat. My 1998 cavalier has 234,614 miles on it. This car has been the best I have ever had. I did have the head gasket replaced with no garantee from the mechanic. That was about 3 years ago and the car runs and runs. Important to have the fuel filter changed when I have any power issues. ... Read More
Hello, I am an 18 year old and a proud owner of a red 1998 Chevy Cavalier Z24 (my first car). I bought it about 10 months ago for $4500. They were asking $6000, but my grandparents gave me some cash to put down. It had 78,000ish when I first got it, but it has now climbed up to 90,000. It has the 2.4L Twin Cam engine on it. Unfortunately with ... Read More
I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with a 2.4L twin cam, and I am pretty sure the automatic transmission is going on it. Would it be cheaper to get the parts out of a junker manual Cavalier of the same type and do a Manual Conversion, or get a new automatic transmission? I really don't like driving automatic, and I don't want to get rid of the car because I ... Read More
I recently had the Head replaced on my 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier. After replacement the engine while in gear ran rough and made some funny noises. So I took it back to the shop that day. They had found that an injector was bad and replaced it at no charge. The engine now runs great while not in gear as well as on the highway, however at slow accelerations (low speeds) there ... Any advice on how to replace an alternator in a 1998 Chevy Cavalier? The dealer says the engine has to be dropped to access it. I can't imagine engineers to design the engine like this, but they have done stranger things before. Moderate DIY. Thanks.
I also own a 1998 Cavalier. It's the Z24 model. I have owned it from day one. In your case, you bought it used. You do not know how the past owner took care of the vehicle. If the Chevy dealer is reliable for you, I would take their suggestion and have the transmission overhauled. My car has been very reliable and has never left me stranded even when the on ... I have a 1998 cavalier and the only problem I have had with it is ALTERNATORS!!! I am on #4. All 3 previously reoplaced by GM dealers. Am moving to the Chevy Equinox.
The cars involved, from the 1998-2001 model years, are certain Chevrolet Cavaliers and Pontiac Sunfires built between March 1997 and April 2001, GM said in a statement." http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/040206/autos_gm_3.html
I have a new 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier and i have a Am/Fm/Cd radio, and i was looking on the chevrolet website and i saw the new Radion Data system radio. it gives the driver information about various accidents, or bad weather reports. I saw them installed on the 2001 Chevrolet Cavaliers. I was wondering if i can put the RDS in my 1998 Chevy?
I brought a used white 2dr 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, with 48,395 miles on it on June 6, 2001 and it wasn't until June 22, 2001 I heard a scratchy squiling noise only when I turn my steering wheel left, or move it slightly to the left. I really dont know whats wrong or what is it. can anyone give me advice or comments about the noise on what it is. Thank ... Read More

I just got on http://www.cars.com and saw a 1998 Chevy Cavalier 5-speed coupe with 35,144 on it for $6995. I live in Maryland though. But still, I am sure they are not that much more expensive where you live. Get a car with a clean history and you will be thankful later that you did. Also, before EVER buying a used car, go to http://www.carfax.com and run a vehicle history report ... Read More
Matty, please listen to my warning before buying that Cavalier. Nearly three years ago, I celebrated my 16th birthday and used my life savings (at the time) to buy my first car, a brand new 1998 cavalier. That may very well have been the worst decision I ever made. Within the car's first 4,000 miles, it contracted a very annoying and rather dangerous stalling problem, and just to clarify it's an ...
