Re: 2003 Chevy Blazer recurring 4wd problem []
Written by: johnnyd69 on Dec 11, 2006 9:21:41 AM
Actually, they've replaced the switch as well as the transfer case (which is always the problem). When it's gone on me it has made a grinding noise and then it gets stuck in 4WD (as it is now). It seems to happen when it's cold; I live in the Northeast and need the 4WD for winter, so this is a huge problem. I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this ... Read More

If they are just changing the dash switch thats why it keeps craping on you - there is a vac line to the transfer case 3 port switch that the encoder motor for 4HI directs vac to the front actuator and engages the front driveshaft. Sensors tell the TCCM (4wd computer) status and allows all to occur. 4Lo then has the encoder motor further engage the low gear. Someone isn't finishing ... Read More

It is a 3-button dash switch, and each time a GM dealer has worked on it; they've replaced the unit each time.

Which part the encoder motor? Is this a 3 button dash switch? Problem depends on case type and exact area and did a GM dealer work on it?

Thanks! The problem I have had three times so far is: when I clicked the button to shift into 4WD from 2WD it made a grinding noise and then went dead (i.e. it was in 4WD high and I was unable to shift back into 2WD). Each time they've replaced the the unit and once the dashboard switch (although that has gone once as well). I was just wondering if anyone's ... Read More

All newer 4wd systems seem to have some quirks due to the move to shift on the fly smart systems. You never said what problems you had but if you read the posts most are small things that the owner can easily fix. Search other forums and see if your "next" vehicle has any problems. If not, then turn it in. The ZR 2dr was pretty good off road but not ... Read More

2003 Chevy Blazer recurring 4wd problem
Written by: johnnyd69 on Dec 8, 2006 8:36:31 AM
I have a 2003 2dr. Chevy Blazer and the 4wd just went for the third time (once a year for the past three years). Since I'm leasing it, it is being fixed free of charge, but my lease is running out in March and I have to decide whether or not to keep it (and won't if this is a chronic problem with the 4wd). Has anyone heard of this being ... Read More

Timing is fixed at distributor and adjusted by the computer. Do you ever lose any coolant from the reservior or see any leakage. Lower intakes are a known problem around 90-100k leaking some coolant into the valley so fill that up and watch it.

Thanks for the help. I have changed the plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter and air filter. Guess that narrows it down. I have 103K on it. Driving habits are all highway averaging 75 MPH. Could it be a timing issue?

In drive thats correct. Many have a slightly rough idle could be from many things: injectors get buildup of waxy crap from cheap gas, cap/rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, sensors degraded (O2, MAF, temp, etc), vacuum leak, idle air control valve, clogged air filter, and each has to be looked at. Sorry no easy answer. Can relate to area, mileage, and driving habits.

Noise, Clanking From Rear End...Eikkk
Written by: peanutz2 on Oct 16, 2006 5:38:47 PM
I have a 2003 TrailBlazer and in the last 4 months I have noticed a Clanking noise that has developed from the bottom rear chasis area. I first thought it could have been a loose spare tire in the under chasis, but that isn't it. I took it into a Chevy dealership today, they say it's the rear Stablelizer suspension bar that is going out and both need to be replace ... Read More

Yes, and this is classic heater core clogging noise and the quick fix is to flush (which is cheap and easy) but the real fix is core replacement and thats pullng the dash so over $500 to get to the heater box. Dex cool and 4.3L Blazers design with the GM cap have had more problems than most other GMs. That 5/150 coolant ad is BS and if you search you ... Read More

I started to hear this bubbling garguling noise that comes ang goes sometime a few months ago, my truck is still under warranty. I made the service manager aware of this and he stated that there probably was air in my cooling system an flushing it would slove the problem most likely. I had the dealer flush out my system an it still makes the noise, the crazy part is whenever ... Read More

96 Blazer ABS Brakes
Written by: sierrablazer on Mar 10, 2005 5:11:51 PM
My 96 Blazer started making a chirping sound when the wheels were rolling, and the smell of brakes grew stronger every day for the past month. We took it to two mechanics who said nothing was wrong. Then, this week, I started getting all kinds of grinding sounds that shook the vehicle when I used the brakes, and they would stick when I started to move again. I took it in ... Read More

2003 Blazer LS 2dr/2wd vibration????

Well, I thought the blazer I was planning to buy tomorrow-was just a different feel-since I'm currently driving a 2001 Saturn L200 sedan. But I have driven 3 new(Blazer) & 1 used(GMC) & thought I felt "SOMETHING" but wasn't sure what it could be with these being new vehicles still on the lot. Now, I'm definitely having second thoughts-anyone heard of this on brand new 2003 models? And for some advice...would ... Read More

Just noticed one thing. The recall stops with 1997 vehicles. You'll probably have to pay for it on your '98. I received a letter in February 2003 referred to as a campaign, not a recall. The campaign# is C02054 for replacement the windshield wiper motor controller circuit board if I had experienced wipers that worked intermittently or not at all. I had this trouble, which the dealer took care of in ... Read More

Yeah, the ground clearance underneath is pretty close to the same, but Chevy lowered the rocker panels, so getting in and out is much easier in the Trailblazer, but a hindrance when off-roading. Since that's not a concern for you, I would definitely take advantage of the GM deals going on and get one, if your wife likes it. It's such a HUGE improvement over the Blazer and my truck. I ... 2003 Blazers

My understanding is that Chevy will be phasing out the Blazers by the end of the year. It will be especially sad to see the ZR2 go away. I think it's a big mistake on GM's part to not offer a replacement for it. I have lurked around this group for a while as well as the Trailblazer Boards. My wife and I had a leased 97 Blazer LS 4 door and returned it to the dealer at end of a 3 year lease.
