Chevrolet Blazer Brake Problems

  • ABS

Written by: duntov on Mar 5, 2012 2:16:52 PM

The 1990-2001 S10 and Blazer ABS system is a poor design and the 1995 - 2001 ABS was improved over the 1989-1994 ABS system. With ABS brakes it is important to flush the brake fluid every 10,000 miles, including the ABS modulator. It takes special equipment and technical knowledge to flush the ABS modulator and unfortunately, most auto repair shops don't have the expertise to bleed the air out of the ... Read More

Since it's gotten cold out (below 40) my blazer won't start on the first try after turning the ignition for 2 seconds (as long as it would take to normally start), but trying the 2nd time it starts okay. If I hold the key for much longer than 2 seconds it starts chugging but won't start and if I try a second time it chugs faster and will eventually start. It's ... Read More

Hi! I recently purchased a 1996 Chevy Blazer 4 by 4. When driving, the "Check Engine" light comes on and I noticed my transmission slipping. My car has to reach a couple thousand to three thousand RPM's to finally start moving. Just by happenstance, my battery died on the car. When I jumped it, my check engine light was off and my car shifted and drove fine. After about 10 minutes ... Read More

I just bought a '96 Chevy Blazer. The ABS light comes on steady. Attempting to troubleshoot, I found the lead power wires going to the ABS. One (black) is a ground. Two red wires are also present. One is from the battery and runs hot all the time. The other I'm not sure about, but isn't running hot ever aparently. Should this run hot from the ignition switch? Is it possible ... Read More

1996 Chevy S10 Blazer 4X4 First of all I am not a mechanic, so I hope I can help. This is what I think about the hot stalling problem. If you have checked fuel pressure and it's good, the fuel pump is probably OK. Then check the fuel pump relay, when you turn the key to "on" not start, the fuel pump will run for a couple of seconds. A ignition coil degrades over time. You never know how bad it was until you replace it. The coil should be replaced at least every 100,000 miles. The same applies to the ICM (Ignition Control Module) in the distributor. That device should be replaced when you replace the coil. Be sure to use heat sink paste (not dielectric grease) on the heat sink plate under the ICM and use new GM ... Read More

  • Bleeding ABS brakes

Written by: duntov on May 3, 2010 6:40:52 AM

Bleeding ABS brakes is a sore spot on the Chevrolet S10 Blazers. Most auto repair shops give up trying to get the correct brake pedal travel after about 2 hours of foot pumping. The shop then will tell the customer that the ABS modulator is bad and needs to be replaced. The ABS modulator costs $700 for a rebuilt unit for the 1985 -1994 ABS brake systems. Rebuilt modulators are not ... Read More
