I know this is a bit late, but I think he drained the transmission fluid, not the oil. They both have drainage valves underneath the car. Hope this helps someone else searching for an answer :)

I suggest that you get rid of that car, the more you keep it the more money you will lose on it. it happened with me> I've spent more 900$ on my 2006 Aveo 1.5 and it is not running properly and burning oil> The fuel economy on it is not good either comparing with the other cars of its size and engine.
I set the parking brake when my car is parked on an incline. I would imagine that's a no brainer, so the dealership never even asked if I did it. This won't matter at all and has nothing to do with it. You obviously will have stepped on the brake before you shift it out of park, especially when parked on a hill. At that point all the brakes are engaged, even more than if you had had the parking brake set (which only affects 2 out of 4 of the wheels).

Just a guess... you usually don't set the parking brake? Automatic transmissions have parking pawls that engage when the car is in park. The pawl locks the driving wheels while in park. If you're on a grade, it's going to take more pressure to get the car out of park. I'm kind of surprised the dealership "did something" rather than remind you to set the parking brake, especially on a hill. ... Read More

I just bought a 2011 Aveo Hatchback in April. I couldn't get it out of park a few times, took it to the dealership where they supposedly changed the shifting gears.... that was 2 weeks ago. 2 days ago, it happened again. I am trying to research to see how many aveo owners are having this issue.

The response to the issue about the leaking valve cover gasket is not true. Oil will leak from area around the spark plug tubes and get inside the tubes partially filling the spark pug tube. This happened to my daughters 2006 Aveo and I needed to replace the valve cover gasket and the "O" rings for the spark plug tubes. All the necesssary gaskets and "O" rings come in the replacement ... I agree, it sounds like they screwed something up alright. Firestone's are usually pretty good but it probably depends on the management. I do most of my auto maintenance myself.

Lets see...car runs good until service work, which consists of timing belt change. Then, high idle speed. Logic would suggest that the belt was installed improperly, probably affecting the timing by being off a tooth or so on a pulley. I was wondering the same thing. I bought a left over 2006 Aveo 5 speed manual. Trouble shifting as well. I called Chevy and they said that for the 1st 500 to 1500 miles the car is in 'training mode'. I am now at 1700 miles and all gears seem to be shifting better. :)

2007 Aveo5 mpg. are: manual 27/37 vs. auto 26/34 2006 Aveo mpg. are: manual 26/35 vs. auto 24/34. I would think real world mileage for both years is at least 2-3 mpg. lower for both city and highway, which is still better than the 19 I am currently getting in my Subaru Outback that is a manual transmission.

Seems like the only persistent "complaint" of sorts with the xA is that for some people the AC doesn't cool down fast enough on a really hot day. Mine's pretty good but you do have to use the MAX FAN setting, which is loud. Once you've driven 10-15 minutes I can cut down to #2 setting on the highway and #3 setting on city streets. The NCAP test is indeed for the "redesigned" 2007 Aveo sedan. If one looks at the NCAP PDF and look at the picture for the 2007 aveo (just search 2007 chevrolet aveo on google), and you'll see it's the same car. A) The Chevy Aveo tested by Euro NCAP was the 2006 model with side airbags as clearly indicated in their official report. It rated overall one and a half stars for safety with a red strike through indicating life threatening injury to the driver. Specifically, it rated 3 points out of 16 in the offset front crash test. Those European statistics don't mean anything here in the U.S. where the Aveo is the safest sub-compact on the road with a 5 star frontal crash test (the best rating), and now has side air bags as standard for 2006. Before you buy this car be advised that it got only one and a half stars out of 5 in the European independent insurance front end crash test at 40 miles/hr. The test was so disastrous that the frame folded i.e. broke resulting in serious injuries to the driver. I noticed on the Chevy website they don't list mileage figures for the 06 Aveo. Something, therefore, must have changed on the car to warrant a retest, otherwise they'd just report the mileage numbers from last year. Anyone have any more information on this?
It's a 5-speed. I'm cheap, plus 5-speeds are more fun and it has a little more pep. Now I need to teach the wife how to drive it. As far as the 2006, you can build one on the chevy website, but when you try and locate one any zip code I use there isn't one within 100 miles. So who knows when it will arrive on the lots.

just looks like the '05. That picture of the 2006 Chevy Aveo 4-door sedan that is being built in China evidently won't be making the boat trip over here to the States. Oh well-the old model is still a solid buy, IMO, with good, unique looks to it. It's heartening that it's built by Daewoo (under GM's control)and not by Chevy.
Chevrolet has finally shifted over to the 2006 Aveo on their website. Go build one for yourself. Lots of new equipment/options: side air bags, cruise control, 15 inch alloy wheels, etc. Maybe some of these things can be retrofitted on previous models. Iluv-- Since the Chinese car looks a lot more Chevy than the present sedan I would say yes, but I'm guessing the 07 model year as they'll try to get another round out of the original. It sounds like some really good improvements. I like the optional 15" wheels, cruise, and side air bags. The cruise is a simple aftermarket option if needed. The arm rest doesn't really interest me. My last three vehicles, including my current Chevy S10, don't have arm rests, and I never missed it. Keep your hands on the steering wheel.

right now, except the 2005 Kia Sportage or the 2005 Scion tC. I guess neither is a "low-end" sedan, is it? I suppose I'm interested in the Chevrolet Aveo sedan and hatch. I also kind of like the new 2006 Nissan Micra, although I doubt I'd ever buy one. It's awfully small.
