In my car's case, it ended up bein the idle air control valve. Its located behind air intake and close to left shock tower by firewall and easily accessible. Nothing needs removed to get to it. The parts only $100 at autozone. You can check it when the car turns over, but doesn't fire up unplug the idle air control valve and plug it back in. If car fires right up, ... Read More

2005 Chevy Aveo stalling
Written by: bgwbadd on Aug 2, 2011 6:25:42 PM
The problem I am having is after the engine is up to operating temperature. When I stop somewhere for a short period of time and turn the engine off (5-10 minutes), when I come back and start the car, as I begin to move in drive, the engine bogs down and almost quits. You can put the accelerator to the floor and nothing happens. After a few seconds, the engine then ... Read More

I have about 48,000 thousand miles on my 2005 chevy aveo hatchback. The thermostat housing unit on this vehicle is made out of plastic. Over time it will wear down, and eventually crack. As a result, the engine coolant will leak out and your engine will overheat. If you see steam coming out of your car, this means your thermostat housing unit might be busted. Recommended course of action. Take it ... Read More

As I've read this, I also had gone to the internet searching on the issue. This is actually the first time I have seen a thermostat permanently enclosed like this. This is a know defect issue with Chevy; however, it is happening around the 30K - 46K mileage. Short reasoning for this: it's happening about the time most cars go out of warranty. This is not a "power train" part to ... Read More

Sorry, the fuel pump with the GM 5-year 100,000 mile warranty on new cars produced approximately after June 2007, is the most extensive in automobile warranties and covers fuel pumps, etc. You must be thinking of someother brand or don't own an Aveo.

I'm curious why you're so dissatisfied with the warranty on the Aveo (other than it apparently didn't cover the particular failure you suffered). It's one of the best ever offered by a domestic. 3/36,000 bumper to bumper, 5/100,000 Powertrain. I know some of the imports (and I use the terms "imports" and "domestic" loosely here, as the lines blur often) offer a 10/100,000 powertrain warranty, and I've seen TV commercials that ... Read More

I would think real world mileage for both years is at least 2-3 mpg. lower for both city and highway, which is still better than the 19 I am currently getting in my Subaru Outback that is a manual transmission.

Number one: Many dealers don't seem to know that the powertrain warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles, so you are surely not out of warranty yet. The Cavalier is subcompact sized and is under huge discounts due to its UGLY, cheap interior and overall lack of competitiveness so the price would be similar to an Aveo. Once again, my 2005 subcompact sedan order is: 1)Toyota Echo 2)Kia Rio 3)Hyundai Accent 4)Chevrolet Aveo 5)Chevrolet Cavalier Sad, considering the Cavalier is the highest priced yet the least competitive.
